OMG another blog

The heat, the heat…

Hey two blogs in two days!

I’M TOO HOT. Its only 11am and I’ve been up for 3 hours and been TOO HOT for 3 hours. aarrrgghhh.

This country is not equipped for dealing with heatwaves, and as it is 102F/ 39C(?) today, then I think that qualifies as a heatwave. My cats are flaked out, I am sitting with a fan beating on my face, and everything is hot and sticky and yuk!

It is ironic that people complain that the weather is so cold and wet for most of the year, and then 1. complain that its too hot, and 2. rush out half naked and burn themselves to a crisp. My sister has been on holiday and is now at home but still on holiday, and I can guarantee that when I see her she will be completely burnt and freckley. Its almost like, ‘we never see the sun, so we have to get as much of it as possible while its here’. I lived in Australia until recently and I have seen the effects of too much sun; I have seen so many people with very advanced skin cancer; I have seen people who’ve had their noses cut off due to skin cancer; and Ive seen people whose skin cancer has spread through their skin and into their bones, their organs, and has killed them.

I am a fair skinned, slightly freckled if I sit in the sun, redhead. I always wanted to be a tanned blonde beach chick. In my early teens, I once sat under a sunbed in an attempt to be ‘tanned’. I hated my pale freckly skin. The sunbed had three settings – 1min for sensitive/fair skin, 2mins for normal skin, 3 mins for dark skin.

Guess which one I used?

Then when I saw no difference, I did it for another 3 mins.

My torso (front and back) my legs (front) and (oh god), my face, were seriously burnt by the end of the day. It took a little time to develop, but by nighttime, my face was blistered – with water blisters – the rest was RED RED RED – and I was in agony. I looked like a burns victim.
As it was also
winter it looked even worse, lol, and my mum had to call the school and tell them I couldnt attend due to sunburn. I dont think they believed her.

I recovered, I didnt scar, there is no visible damage. But it only takes a few exposures like that, especially at an early age, to kick the skin cancer into gear. I *do* go out in the sun – if you live in a hot country there’s no choice – but I dont sunbathe. I do go to the beach because I love the sea, but I cover myself in sunblock. I still tan – lightly – but Im never in it enough to get a darker tan, and I hate freckles so I like to keep them to a minimum. I also NEVER have my face in the sun EVER. Hats, sunglasses, sunblock. I dont care if my face is pale, sometimes I use bronzer if it looks too strange, but I keep my face out of the sun.

I have friends in their early 20s and their skin has aged so much and they have so many lines – especially around the eyes as they dont wear sunglasses, preferring to squint in the sun – by the time they are 30-40 they will look about 50-60. And they are responsible for that.

Anyway, see what the heat does for me lol, I have gone way off topic and started ranting about the sun!

While I’m here I just thought I would give you all a way of converting the temperatures:

If you know the Celsius temperature -

eg 33C degrees

33 +32 x 9/5 = 90.6F (9/5 = 9 divided by 5) = 90.6F

If you know the farenheit temperature –

eg 91F degrees

91 – 32 = 59 x 5/9 (5/9 = 5 divided by 9) 32.7C

Hope that helps!

I said last time, that I was a bit sad. Well those who know me, know why, but I’m still a little sad today too… and TOO HOT
