So here’s my old office chair that’s been with me for 10+ years in various houses. A couple of years ago the wheel fell off (literally) and then the tilt mechanism stopped working (and that’s the best part!) I tried to fix both but no luck. I really don’t like the black leather look anyway but there are limited options with these office chairs and this one was really comfy, but after all this time, the chair was worn and covered in cat claw marks! So I planned to give it away, but then I am kind of attached to it and I really didn’t want to give away a perfectly good chair that I couldn’t afford to replace. Indulge me a little with the “perfectly good” description of the chair lol.
Anyways, I moved it upstairs (out of sight out of mind) where it really wasn’t either and kept getting in the way, so again I start thinking just get rid of the stupid thing and stop obsessing. At some point I even had it disassembled and ready to go in a black bag for transportation but then who would want a broken down old chair with a broken wheel and a non-functioning tilt mechanism? I hate waste, and things being dumped in landfill, and unnecessary spending/replacing of stuff.
And then yesterday I woke up and thought why don’t you cover the chair!!! (And find the wheel, stick it back on and fix the tilt mechanism…) but yeah, COVER the chair with something else… like some awesomely bright vinyl
I really, and I mean really, want to cover it in bright fuchsia vinyl but I know it doesn’t match anything in the house, but I bet the chair would look awesome. So I have decided to cover it in the lime green vinyl instead – still pretty bright but more likely to go with everything else. If you are wondering about the weird background in these photos, I blurred it out to hide the mess 😛 Started to investigate how the chair pads are attached to the chair and how it is assembled. Everything is conveniently stapled together, so no worries. All I have to do is buy some staples for my staple gun and then make the chair pads, recover the back of the chair and staple the newly covered pads back on! Stay tuned for part 2 which will be after I have done all the work. I like that I can give this old chair a new lease on life and not really spend any money doing it (since I have everything except the staples) Damn that fuchsia vinyl looks good…
