Oh hello there!
It’s time to make another family birthday card, this time for my niece, and I really thought long and hard about this one because I wanted to make something she would really love (and hopefully keep) and this is what I came up with. I was just playing around with bits and pieces of various things that I had been testing out – specifically the new oxides and Dina Wakley’s Scribble Sticks and this is what started to emerge – kind of like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon.
What pulled it all together and made it make sense was the arrival of the new Jane Davenport face stamp set. This one in particular reminds me so so much of my niece, so it was the perfect choice.
So the background is one of the Scribble Stick backgrounds I had painted a few weeks back. I like this one because it looks sunset-y, so I started laying out some of the the flowers and leaves on the background wondering if I could make it look like a floral crown, and I used the stamp to work out the placement. Then the butterflies turned up so I thought why not – I’m sure I can fit them in somewhere.
I stamped this lovely flower girl’s face on the paper and then played around with the placement of all the bits and pieces. Butterflies in the hair? Sure thing!
I glued all the little flower crown pieces together and then started adding a few more around her face. Then added some Glossy Accents to some of the elements.
I gave her a collar piece using the biggest flower and some leaves.
I worked a bit more on the crown, adding more leaves and flowers, and Glossy Accents. This is quite a big piece and fits on a 5 x 7 card which I made from the white cardstock and attached it with double sided adhesive. I think she liked it 🙂
