I was in the subway the other day with my phone in my hand since my ticket was tucked inside and it saved me digging around in my bag for it when I was getting on and off.  So because I had nothing to do but stare at it, I started to notice just how scruffy and worn it was looking – I don’t spend a lot of time looking at it so it probably has looked like this for quite a while lol.

It also cost about £2 so I had very low expectations of it lasting very long so I think it’s done pretty well considering.  Anyway, I really hate waste and I really like fixing things so, I decided to try something and if it didn’t work, then it didn’t really matter.

First of all, I removed the phone (duh) and then the plastic cradle that holds the phone.  Then i covered the inside and outside with gesso, let it dry, and then started painting it with this metallic lime green paint from Jacquard.  I chose this colour because it was the closest to the original colour of the cover, and I liked that colour.  It just needed some help.

Then I took two of the Crazy Cat stamps by Tim Holtz, and stamped one on each side of the outside of the cover.

Then I stamped this quote from another Tim Holtz set, and because I am thinking about Halloween (and planning cards!) I stamped these bats from hmm, I think a Kaisercraft set.

Then I coloured in the cats and bats with alcohol markers and this is the finished case. I glued the cradle back to the inside and popped my phone back in.  I’m very happy with it and I like that I have a unique customised phone case.  I don’t know how long it will last – acrylic paint is practically permanent but some parts of the cover are creased and worn and the cover is continually folded, opened and closed so that will put some strain on it.  But when/if that happens, I can just paint it again!
