Galaxy Backgrounds (again) with Gansai Tambi Watercolours and Not My Usual Colours – eek!

Galaxy backgrounds are one of my favourite things to do when I feel like creating something with no destination in mind.  I have to say that the results and my feelings about the results are always mixed though and I am not always happy with them, and sometimes I get a little frustrated when I see them after they have dried.  But that’s just me being a perfectionist and really they all turn out to be useful whether it is as a full background piece or the best parts selectively cut out, or even just using it for diecutting.

I used Cold Press Watercolour Paper for these, it’s not as smooth as hot press but it can take more water and I was expecting to use quite a lot plus multiple layers.  I used my Gansai Tambi watercolour paints for these this time – the last batch of galaxies I painted were done with my Altenew set – these paints however are more opaque and I wanted to experiment with different colours from what I usually choose.

Normally I stick to blues, greens and purples with some black, but this time I decided to try yellows, reds and oranges.

Wow so much red!  I also started adding some black to darking it down and making it look like deep dark space.

Then I added quite a lot of “stars” using a white Posca paint pen.

I always start out with a plan to just make one or two of these, but then I find them really addictive, and so I end up with more than intended lol.

I am thinking that this very black one is probably my favourite out of this set.

In the end I managed to stop myself with five lol.  I left them to dry overnight but even with them being taped down, they are a little wavy and I might have to flatten them a bit more.
