Hi Crafty Friends!

I have been working on my Wellspring 2020 projects playing catch up due to a late start by me. The course I am referring to is of course, Wellspring 2020 by Artful Academy (formerly Mixed Up Creative Academy).  Here’s what they say about the course:

Wellspring is an inspirational, motivational school all about using art for mental wellness and self-care. It runs in our dedicated online classroom from May 1st to August 18th 2020. Through 30 energising and insightful lessons we will explore how and why art can be a powerful tool for mental wellbeing and self-care, and make lots of beautiful projects along the way.  Join us for 18 weeks of uplifting, empowering, thought-provoking, life-affirming art lessons themed around mental wellbeing!

Still playing catch up and doing whatever lesson seems most appealing at the time, the benefits of starting late I guess.  Today I decided to do this:

It’s an art journal page that is a feast for the senses!  My page is all about tea.  I love tea 🙂  One of the things I like to do with tea (other than drinking it) is watercolour with it… green tea on the right and black tea on the left with some green tea splatters.

Here’s a closer look at each page, starting with the left hand page:  tea bag paper, tags and string, crocheted flowers, tea-dyed cotton lace, twine, tags, star anise, corrugated kraft, and a bag of genmaicha popcorn tea!

And now the right hand page: green tea watercolour paper, teabag paper, strings, tags, burlap, fringed paper, dried orange, chamomile flowers, cinnamon sticks, eucalyptus leaves from the garden, tea-dyed cotton lace, assorted leftover bits and pieces that were lying on my table.  Both of these photos were taken on my table/craft mat and are slightly different to the finished page as I changed a couple of things around.

As for the senses, well let’s see:

Sight – lots to see here, many different objects and textures and colours
Hearing – the genmaicha tea can be shaken, the kraft card can be scratched, the teabag paper can be rustled
Touch – lots of different textures to touch and feel – crocheted flowers, fringed paper, burlap, teabag paper, roughness of the dried orange, cinnamon, star anise, corrugated kraft, lace etc
Taste – food and drink are represented on the page, tea, orange, star anise, cinnamon, chamomile flowers etc. Technically you could snap off bits of cinnamon and make a cup of tea with the genmaicha if you wanted to
Smell – pages are coloured with black and green tea, also genmaicha smells toasty, plus the orange, cinnamon and star anise

Now I will close these pages and put them into my journal and we will see how long the scents are preserved.  As always, thanks for reading!

A Vintage JourneyRustic Charm – so here’s a funny thing, I just finished adding my Rustic Angel Card to this challenge and the related posts at the bottom brought up this art journal page I did earlier in the month.  I have no idea why I didn’t think about this page before as it’s perfectly rustic.  So glad I realised this before the challenge ends tomorrow (written 24.6.20)

From stash: everything! see above for items included on pages

I started something new for April and continuing for May and June:

Since we are all stuck inside and can’t leave the house, I thought I would try and do two things:
1. use this time to finish any unfinished projects
2. use as much recycled materials as possible (I do this a lot anyway) but also not to buy new stuff!
So, with that in mind, I will note the above on any posts, if applicable.
RECYCLED MATERIALS – YES everything basically – plus nothing new used, no new purchases!

What a delightful page spread – to see, touch, smell and probably even taste! Beautiful sunshine colours and lovely inky splatters. Thanks so much for joining us on A Vintage Journey.
