Hi crafty friends!

It’s time to share my DT inspiration for the August challenge over on More Than Words Challenge Blog.

The Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge and this time the theme is:

Word Inspiration – Chill Out
Creative Challenge – SKETCH

This is a sketch that is really designed for scrapbook pages but I am not a scrapper so I created an art journal spread instead.  I also rotated the sketch 100 degrees to fit my idea.  I was flipping through some of my journals looking for a page that might be the right colours for the image that I wanted to use, and I found this one which is at least two years old and from memory was done with Dylusions sprays (?) at least I’m pretty sure it was.

As I’ve been mulling over the challenge in my head, I kept thinking about my favourite ways to chill out.  Quite a few of my teamies have beach themed projects and that also sounds like a perfect way to chill out, especially since it’s summer here but of course COVID-19 has prevented a lot of people from going on their usual summer holidays.  So what other ways can we chill out and relax a bit during a pandemic?  Well how about just flopping down on the sofa with a good book?I’m still making a concerted effort to use my stash, so I went through the various boxes and pulled out bits and pieces that I thought might go together; some of them by colour and others for shape or texture.

All of these very textured pieces are actually old wallpaper I pulled off one of the bedroom walls here.  I really don’t like this kind of paper, I get that it serves a purpose, usually disguising a problem, but I like smooth walls.  However, it’s great for mixed media, so this stuff was leftover from a project I did last year and it had been covered with fluid acrylics.  The black cord on the upper left is a handle from a Brown Thomas bag that I have hung on to for years, and there are also some offcuts of some printed tissue paper that was left over from I think, covering a journal.

There is no real process photos here nor a tutorial this time, I really just took a few photos while I was figuring stuff out and wanted to remind myself of placement.  I also found a few more elements I wanted to use including the white die cut heart and flourish which would later be painted black.

And voila we have the finished page, just like that!  Although not really just like that lol.   Here’s a quick run down:  everything on the page has come from my recycling boxes of stuff to try and use, so all of these bits – the wallpaper, the black cord, the tissue, the teabag paper behind the image, the black and white mounting for the image, the die cut heart and flourish, all the die cut letters, and the gold icing paste skins were all in the stash boxes hoping to be used and calling out “pick me, pick me”.  So I did.  Also decorating the background are a couple of older Prima stamps, some black gloss Nuvo drops, and some white and gold paint splashes.

And of course don’t forget the journal page background that’s been waiting patiently for at least two years!
As always, you can enter any new project except ATCs, cards, postcards or tags (save those for the Mini Challenge!)  and there are eight prizes up for grabs!  Visit the blog for more details of prizes and sponsors and some amazing inspiration from the Design Team.
I’d love to see what you make so don’t forget to enter the More Than Words Main Challenge which is open till the end of the month!
