Shake It Up – Mini Sewing Album

I only covered the front cover with gesso as I planned to cover all the rest of the pages with paper.  I also found this bit of plastic packaging that I wanted to use up and was just the right size for my cover.

This sewing-related stamp set and paper pad were definitely going to be used.  I also ended up using a few more bits and pieces from some other paper pads, partly because I couldn’t bear to use some of this – how stupid since it’s a project for me so why not use it, right?  But somehow I just couldn’t bring myself to cut into it.

The album is put together in the same way as this little heart book just using some masking tape.

Time for a bit of collage and there’s some of that other paper I mentioned.  The paper on the bottom left is a Prima one, Georgia Blues, except I wasn’t interested in using the blues, just some of the more neutral colours.

Two more pages covered, this time with the Stamperia paper, and I’ve been trying to use up this glue as it constantly clogs in the tip, and I’m not going to buy it any more so just getting the last of it out on these pages.

I wanted my cover to have a vintage cream feel to it so I used some Paperartsy Fresco paint to give it a couple of coats of Nougat.

Now on to the stamping!  I used the stamps and some black ink to stamp the sewing icons over the chipboard shapes.  Most of them fit pretty well, being just a little bit smaller, and I managed to fudge some of them to look like they fit (the sewing machine one for example!)  I also used the zig zag stitch stamp around all four sides.

Using some black acrylic, I coloured in the scissors, pins and thread chipboard shapes.

For the page that shows behind the cutout front, I used this burlap (aka hessian) paper that looks so much like the real thing!  I actually have the real thing and thought about using it but it would cause some sticking problems for my shaker window.  Did you guess it was going to be a shaker window?  Well here are the buttons that I will be putting inside it.

I used black double-sided foam tape to make my shaker window using the same method as I used on this little Halloween card.

Once the shaker window was attached to the front cover using the foam tape, I “bound” the book together using linen tape which holds everything together brilliantly.
