As I mentioned previously, I am doing four year-long courses this year. *insanity*  I’ve been a bit slow getting started for one reason or another but I have managed to watch the lessons and read the documentation if any, I’m working my way through the actual art slowly but I have finally completed a lesson for Book of Days which is a year long art journaling “deep dive” by Effy Wild.  I decided to sign up for this course as I liked her lessons on Life Book, Ever After and Kaleidoscope.  I actually considered joining BOD in February last year but it was already started and I just didn’t think I would be able to catch up so I decided I would try it this year. As things turned out I am actually doing a few courses with her this year and I am slow in starting all of them.  One of the reasons for being tardy with this one is that I couldn’t decide what kind of book I wanted to work in or what size.  I thought I had it all figured out at the end of the year but then when the course started and I saw what we were doing, I changed my mind.  So for Life Book I am working in loose 9 x 12 sheets, for Wanderlust I am working on those same sheets, folded in half and made into a book, and that’s what I was planning for this class, but actually I think I needed a bigger space, more room to spread out and not feel restricted, so I am working on A3 sized paper folded in half to make A4 sized pages, so the following page is A4 or roughly US Letter size (ie regular printer paper size wherever you are).  One of the prep lessons was to paint the cover of your journal, so you see, I couldn’t get started until I decided what my journal was going to be lol.  Once I made that decision, I got to do the lesson today and I LOVED it.  (I also finally finished my new home page so if you click on home you will see it’s snowing there to match the weather outside lol)

As this is a class lesson, there is no tutorial, just a couple of starting out photos and a lot of ending up photos.  Actually there are no starting photos of this one at all, just the end result.

And a close up… she has a big blob of gold paint on her mouth and I thought about painting over it to hide it but actually I kinda like it, so it stays.

So this is my new art journal for this class and this is the cover.  I was tempted to write my word of the year on there but I really didn’t want to add anything else to her and mar her beautiful face.  Inside is a signature made up of four pages and stitched together.  It won’t be big enough for the whole year but I’m thinking maybe enough for the first quarter and then make three more to see me through till the end of the year.  I also painted the background for the back cover since it was one big A3 sheet of paper anyway, but there is no girl on there yet, just the background. I have one more post to write and then I can stop for the night.  Hope you like her – I adore her and I can’t wait to do another one!

Let me know what you think in the comments and as always, thanks for reading!

She is beautiful and that blob of paint on her lip is super cool – I would have kept it too. FABULOUS. I am so jealous you are taking 4 courses – I wish I had time for one! When I retire, I am doing tons of them – I can’t wait. Wonderfully done cover and I can’t wait to see what else you do!

She is a genuine beauty. It makes an incredible front cover for your art. She would certainly inspire me. You created a real gem. Thanks, too, for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey, Elle.
