Hello again, here I am playing catch-up again and I just realised that it’s been nearly a month since I did a Life Book lesson!  I really can’t explain it, I have been watching the videos but I guess just busy doing other things.  This is the Week 5 lesson but I have the Week 4 lesson in progress so it’s not like I’ve not been doing anything.  The Week 4 lesson is working with clay and it is made but taking forever to dry because it’s freezing here.  I had the same problem in December when I was making tree ornaments and they took days to dry out enough to paint!  So I thought I would be able to work on it at the weekend but nope, still drying.  So instead I decided to do this lesson which is called Wild Companion by Eulalia Mejia. If you want to see the lesson that this project is based on, you can see it here on her instagram page.

For Life Book I use this 9.5 x 12.5 inch cold pressed watercolour paper. It’s only 200gsm but I like it.

As you will see from the class project photo on instagram, the subject is a tiger and there is a template provided.  I planned to draw a tiger but I kept drawing a cat although at this stage I’m not sure what it looks like lol

My colour choices also seem to be influenced by my food choices lately haha.  I also changed up the supplies suggested for the class as I didn’t have some of them (colours and/or materials) and I’m trying to use what I have already in my “packed to the rafters” studio room so no new stuff for me!

Anyway, fast forward to nearer the end, and here is my kitty looking much more kitty-like.

Just a few finishing touches – I added white and gold splatters of course!

More splatters…

And as I had paint left on my palettes…

I added this to a page, I don’t know what I’m doing with that but it will turn into something.
With the other palette (mostly browns) I painted a random tree.  I don’t know what kind of tree this is supposed to be, but it is tree-like
I actually painted it on the other side of this page, so maybe later I will add some crows to the tree!

So at this point I considered it to be finished and took all the photos etc and then when I was writing up the post I realised I had forgotten something!  Not something from the lesson as it wasn’t in the lesson, but my wild companion is a kitty… with no whiskers!  How could I forget her whiskers!!!  I added the whiskers and then I remembered this stamp I made last year and since it says WILD NATURE LOVE on it, I thought I would use it here.

I tested it out on the back of the page using Jane Davenport squid ink in gold, but it’s very light so I tried it with brown stazon.

To get it to show up on the background I stamped it with the brown and then the gold over the top.  It’s subtle depending on the light.

All my messy palettes… cardboard box, template plastic, acrylic block… I really need to use the real palettes but I tend to grab whatever is lying around at the time.

Here’s my pretty (wild) kitty.  I like her, maybe she could hang in my studio and watch over me.

Hope you like it!  Let me know what you think in the comments and as always, thanks for reading!
