Hello friends and welcome to April!  Is it raining?  It’s probably raining lol what a surprise, it’s dry and sunny!  To kick off the month I have another art journal page to share with you which is my DT project for the MTW April Main Challenge.  This particular challenge is based on a scrapbook sketch created by one of our team.  I don’t do scrapbooks.  I do art journals so I put my spin on it and here’s what happened.

My journal from last year has some empty pages still, so I am working on completing them this year.  I have exactly 12 so it works out well, as I can use one page for each of the months this year.  This one had this pink, gold and green gel printed background started already and I thought it would be nice for this challenge.  As I flicking through an old magazine I found this image which I liked and knew immediately I wanted to use her in a frame.  If you need to see the sketch btw, it’s at the end of the post.

I decided for my page to work I needed to rotate the sketch 90 degrees counter clockwise so instead of the title being on the right side, it was now at the top.  I sketched out my title and then went over it with a black waterproof pen.

Once I had the title in place I knew how much space I had left and how big I could make my frame.  I drew out a frame with a black stabilo.

I drew more frames and some half circles using the stabilo and the waterproof pen.

Then I activated the stablilo with water, and then added some splatters in other colours.  As I was adding the water, some of the previous layers became more visible – see the green spiral stamping on the right side?  I also added some gold gelatos around the page at this point too.  Then adhered the woman to my frames.

I still thought it needed something else so I grabbed some stencils and did some black stencilling around the half circles, and then stencilled over them, offset, with some gold paste.  I also added the gold mandala stencil on the bottom left and then some gold washi tape in a couple of places on the page.

Here’s a closer look… love this stencil!

And all the layers on this page…

And here’s the finished page…
Here’s my DT inspiration photo which you can find on the challenge announcement post today.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how this page came together – especially from a scrapbook sketch!  Let me know what you think in the comments and as always, thanks for reading!

DT inspiration for More Than Words April Challenge – Perfect and Sketch

Blog Along with EffyDay 1 – my first post for the month and it was one of my usual DT posts that was scheduled for today so easy peasy.  Let’s see how many days I can keep this up with fresh content though! This month I decided to join in with Effy Wild’s blog along – 30 posts in 30 days and hope I can think if enough things to say. every. day. This coming weekend will be difficult as I will be on Easter break and not online as much as usual, but I’ll do my best to keep up.  The idea is to blog every day obviously but also to comment on other people’s blogs to keep the conversation going.  There is a facebook group where you can link your posts and find other people’s to go visit and comment. During April you can find all the Blog Along posts linked on my home page for convenience.

This is stunning and another confirmation of why I’m afraid to start art journaling! I would want ALL the cool stuff and wouldn’t want to have to stop to do chores or work. Thank you for sharing. I love it!

This is stunning, Elle. Sorry I missed so much last month, but I hope to catch up on all you create this month. I love purple and that is gorgeous. I also love the texture you created with the molding paste.

I love the way you show complete process photos. It was fascinating how you used this one magazine photo to make the final artwork. The gold stencilling give that extra something and I like the pink/purples in the background.
