Yesterday was International Children’s Book Day so I thought I would show and tell about a few of my favourites.

First celebrated in 1967, International Children’s Book Day is held on the 2nd of April every year to promote children’s reading and books. The date of the event signifies the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen: the renowned Danish author responsible for such well-known stories as ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, ‘The Little Mermaid’ and ‘The Ugly Duckling’.  Here are a couple of books I have saved from my childhood.  I had quite a large collection of books as a child but when I left home, most of them were given away to other children in the family.  Some of my favourite books also came to me from other siblings so it made sense to keep them circulating in the family, but I held on to a few favourites.  I really love the cat on the Fairy Tales cover below – he’s fantastic don’t you think?

Another favourite, is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. An older sibling was responsible for buying me quite a few Roald Dahl books including the Charlie books and James and the Giant Peach and I was completely obsessed with them.  This edition is one I bought much later, probably because of the Golden Ticket competition – who could resist!

More recently is everyone’s favourite wizard – Harry Potter!  When they started publishing these large format illustrated editions I started to collect them.

The illustrations are truly amazing and well worth the purchase.

As I mentioned in previous posts, I am working my way through #the100daysproject and my chosen project is book quotes on ATCs.  I’ve been selecting favourite books from my shelves, but I am a wee bit behind due to Easter Holidays etc but you can find the first 60 of them by clicking here.  I haven’t started the children’s book section of the shelves yet but The Book Thief is one I’ve already done so I thought I would share it here since it is a favourite children’s book but suitable for all ages really.

I have a great many children’s book favourites and would love to hear about yours, so let’s chat about them in the comments.

As always, thanks for reading!

I’ll do my best to keep up.  The idea is to blog every day (obvs) but also to comment on other people’s blogs to keep the conversation going.  There is a facebook group where you can link your posts and find other people’s to go visit and comment. During April you can find all the Blog Along posts linked on my home page for convenience.
