Hello friends and welcome back to another blog post, this time for Day 9 of the Blog Along with Effy (details below) and so far I have managed to come up with enough content for eight straight days of blog posts, which normally does not happen as I average around 10-20 on a good month and it’s actually making me feel like I’ve been a bit lazy over the last 16 years lol.

Today I’m sharing these gel prints I made a few days ago.  I had been participating in the Gelli Arts Printing Challenge last month but life got busy and I didn’t get all the prompts done, so I just sat down and looked through some that I had missed and decided to do them spontaneously with not much thought at all. If you want to see the full list of prompts just click the link above and all the prompts are in that post. So the prompt for day 14 was “happiness is…” and the prompt for day 29 was “your favourite animal” (I bet you can’t guess that one lol *points at name of website*) so I decided to combine the two because let’s face it, happiness is kitties!  Now does this look like Andy Warhol’s cat or what?

So there I was, minding my own business, thinking about happiness and cats and decided to draw a cat outline to use as a stencil, just on some printer paper, nothing fancy and nothing that was going to last long term.  I also drew (badly) a basic outline of a person.  Then I cut them both out so really I made masks rather than stencils but whatever.

I got to use my paper mask a few times before it got really fed up with all the paint and started to stick to the print but that in itself is an interesting effect so I don’t mind that at all. You can see an example of that in the print on the right side.

The generic person mask example is on the far right in the photo below, and the other two prints are made with a cardboard stencil cut from a die about two years ago and it’s still going strong! It was only ever meant to be temporary but it turns out it enjoys being a stencil!

I spent a few hours making background prints after this just playing around with different paints and colours, and it wasn’t until I was taking the photos that I realised that what I had done was a bit like the Week 13 Silhouette lesson from Wanderlust, at least in part, not the full technique and not like the finished example but Andy Warhol was mentioned.  So I’m thinking that the lesson and chat and AW just downloaded into my brain and I did this automatically without even thinking about Andy Warhol, since all I was thinking about was happiness and cats, how weird is that? BTW fun fact:  Andy Warhol was definitely a cat person and created quite a few cat-related artworks and a couple of books featuring cat art, and at one time lived with his mother and 25 cats!!! [icon name=”cat” style=”solid” class=”” unprefixed_class=””][icon name=”cat” style=”solid” class=”” unprefixed_class=””][icon name=”cat” style=”solid” class=”” unprefixed_class=””][icon name=”cat” style=”solid” class=”” unprefixed_class=””][icon name=”cat” style=”solid” class=”” unprefixed_class=””][icon name=”cat” style=”solid” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] I can only dream…

The pink and white cat worked out best, and I really like how it looks like she (I decided she was a girl cat) looks like she is wearing a collar but it was actually caused by the wrinkles in the crappy priinter paper lol.  I will be using these gel prints in my journal soon so you will see them again in situ.

Let me know what you think in the comments, and as always, thanks for reading!
