Hello again, here I am with yet another 10 day catch up for the #100DayProject, this time it’s days 61-70 and of course it’s late! But I have been sharing a few of them along the way and I have been working on more for the next batch but there are only so many hours in the day and my days have been filled with clearing out the craft
hoarding supplies. It’s been hard to tear myself away from that fun job or maybe I should say it’s been hard to get out of that room as I was trapped more than once behind looming tubs of fabric and yarn and ribbons and tweed and couldn’t reach the door haha. Anyway, I have finished the few ATCs that were missing from this batch and I wanted to do a round-up post here on the blog despite its lateness.
You can find a detailed post for my Day 1 project where I went into the ins and outs of what I was doing, and here is a look at
the first ten days and
days 61-70 (this post!)
For this post, I am presenting the finished projects for days 61 to 70 which contains some of my favourite covers! You can see the ATCs next to the covers they were inspired by in the photo below, and then follows a closer look at each of the ten ATCs.
Here are the individual days with titles, authors, quotes and notes from me.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
When I looked at the cover of this book I thought how on earth am I going to do this. It all just seemed like random scribbly lines that somehow turned into people, but it came together in the end and I love the vibrancy of the Pitt artist pens.
The Crow Road by Iain Banks
I love this one, I just used one black neocolour for this and got all the shades I needed. I love my tree!
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
Really tried to replicate the beautiful blues of the cover by mixing various blues that I had together. I love how the gold pops against it.
Company of Liars by Karen Maitland
This is another favourite and I loved the process of adding all the little gold icons inside the wolf head, definitely will do more like this.
The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry
This was a fun one to do and I actually enjoyed drawing the snake and want to try more snakes now
Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman
I’m so annoyed with myself with this one, after taking great care to draw the leave upside down like it is in the book, when it came to writing the quote, my brain told me it was upside down and needed to be turned the other way. Arrggh!
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
One of the more simple covers, almost felt like cheating lol
I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
Really wanted to write the quote in cream like the title is on the book cover but it just kept fading into the background, so it ended up being black pen.
The Little Drummer Girl by John le Carré
Love my little drummer girl silhouette, silver grey metallic background using neocolours, gelatos and metallic watercolour lol, just had to get it just right.
The Beach by Alex Garland
I love his eyebrow but his eye doesn’t quite give that look of fear like the one on the book cover
#The100dayproject – Day 61-70
So why ATCs and why these books? Well in order to make it easier on myself and therefore make it more likely that I could do all 100 days, I thought ATCs would be perfect. Then I thought of book quotes handwriting them, perfect way to practice my lettering and also indulge my love of books. So what books? The first 25 books are all books with elements of magic in them (fantasy, supernatural, urban fantasy, vampires, witches, werewolves etc) and then I changed to modern fiction and so on but now with only 30 books left I have some difficult choices to make! As with the first 25 books, all books must be taken from my shelves and be actual physical books, no ebooks, no audiobooks! I have also started taking elements from the book covers and incorporating them in the ATCs so they are starting to look like mini book covers and we’ve been playing “name that book” in our book group lol. The idea is to blog every day (obvs) but also to comment on other people’s blogs to keep the conversation going. There is a facebook group where you can link your posts and find other people’s to go visit and comment. During April you can find all the Blog Along posts linked on my home page for convenience. If you leave a comment, I’ll be sure to return the favour!
