Hello friends and welcome to another May project! So today marks the start of the May Mini Challenge over on More Than Words Challenge Blog and this is my DT inspiration for this month. The challenge word is EYES and this word must appear on the actual project. For my project I created an ATC and thought I was done, but as you can see, I wasn’t quite done and so I ended up with three this time!
Very unusually for me, I have been trying to work ahead, and like my next few Main Challenge projects, I also worked on the next few Mini projects at the same time. This is because I have a lot going on this year and I want to make it easier on myself (four year-long courses hello!) So this post will be appearing in May but was written much earlier instead of at the last minute, for a change lol.
I sat down and sketched out some ideas including this one for the May Mini Challenge…
There are a lot of ideas for eyes, and lots of quotes about eyes but the one I decided to use is one of my favourites and once that was decided I knew I had to do cat eyes.
I’ve been playing with pastels a lot lately and I thought that would be the best option for doing cat eyes.
I was just playing around really, it’s the wrong paper and the wrong way to start and I hadn’t looked at my pastel pencils in years (lots of years!) but I thought I would just see what happened anyway.
Well what happened was that I decided it was finished, or at least I was finished with the pastels, so I switched to polychromos and started drawing on top. It’s not a bad idea to do this but it is a bad idea if you want to go back and add more pastel! Which I did because I wasn’t happy with it. So I set it aside and started on a second set of cat eyes, this time modelled on another beloved cat.
Now that I had both a black cat and a tabby, I thought I may as well go for the hat-trick and make a black and white cat too. Probably should have worked on white paper this time since his face is mostly white but too late! I did actually go back to the black cat and work on it some more with pastels and as you can see it looks quite different and hopefully better! Here are the three of them with their inspiration photos.
I really enjoyed doing this and want to do a lot more of them, maybe even full faces or whole cats. Let me know in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!
More Than Words Mini Challenge – This challenge requires you to use a specific word on your project so the word EYES has to appear on the card. Entry for the Mini Challenge is now also held on the blog under the relevant post. Visit the MTW blog for more details of prizes and sponsors and some amazing inspiration from the Design Team.
