Happy Wednesday, hope your week has been good so far!  I had an enjoyable day working on a few things, some in progress and some finished, some barely started.  I was a little behind with finishing off my week one ICAD cards due to having to wait for some things (a lot of things) to dry but I managed to get the first nine all finished and photographed today.  [edited to add: ICAD stands for Index-card-a-day more details about ICAD can be found here] I had planned to work one week at a time, but as I was adding final touches to them this morning I ended up reaching for the day 8 and 9 cards and just doing them while I was in the mood and all the collage stuff was still out on the desk.  So instead of a week at a time, I have decided to aim for batches of nine at a time which will give me 6 x 9 and then the final seven days at the end of July.  It makes sense since this is already the 9th or maybe because nine of them laid out together look better than seven of them would?

It’s funny how plans change when you start working on something isn’t it?  One of the themes for week one was portraiture and I tucked that one away in the back of my mind to think about how it would work with my main theme which is…

really just an excuse for me to play with and test out various watercolour pigments and possibly a bit of colour mixing.  Painting some portraits on top of that would be quite nice but I thought it seemed a bit boring so I decided to add some collage, and then one thing lead to another and…

Uh-oh no portraits, all collage! I got so caught up in the choosing of the collage colours to try and match each of my colour cards, and then building the layers up on the cards, that I forgot all about the portraits.  Oh well, I guess it wasn’t meant to be… but just look at the pretty collage colours…

I thought it was a good opportunity to use up some of my bits and pieces from my stash so for this yellow one I have a piece of gift wrap with a bird on it, a gel print, gold tissue, a tea bag, music paper, yellow envelope, and a bit of notebook paper with Distress Oxides on it. Some of these things have been in the stash for a few years!

I’m also using some of my tea bag papers from all that tea I’ve been drinking lately.

Here are days 1-9 in order . . .

In addition to all the collage pieces I mentioned at the beginning, each of them also has a bit of corrugated cardboard (cat food box), some dimpled recycled packaging, and some words cut from an old book.

Do you have a favourite colour from the ones above?  The colours are Quinacridone Magenta, Transparent Pyrrole Orange, Quinacridone Gold, Green Gold, a Green (made from Green Gold + Cobalt Teal), Phthalo Blue RS, Dioxazine Purple, a Red Violet (made from Dioxazine Purple + Quin Magenta).

Here’s what I’ve been up to since last week

The other big thing that I’ve been doing is redesigning the website!  Probably if you never leave the blog or you only visit this post, then you might not notice any difference but it is very different out there lol.  So as for what might be on my desk this week, the answer is: lots of things so I could take photos of them to use for website graphics.  Here’s one of them, you can see the rest of them now in place on the website.

Let me know what you think in the comments. If you have any questions about anything in this post, just ask.  As always, thanks for reading!

Great collages and I do like those birds – are they stamped or did you draw them? Angela #12

You have great taste in table covers (it’s the same as mine 😉 ) The ICADs are wonderful (I had to look up what they were as I’d seen it elsewhere too) and what a wonderful way to keep a far more interesting swatch collection! Bye for now, Lisa-Jane #8

Loving the ICADs Elle. I don’t think it matters if you follow the prompts or not as long as you are having fun. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #4

I am in awe of your ICADs, elle. Each is lovely. I especially like that you used some of your teabags along with your incredible collage fodder.

I also LOVE the new look to your site. You used your (today’s) desk photo to your advantage when you created the various backgrounds. Happy WOYWW from # 3.
