Hello friends and welcome to another June project! So today marks the start of the June Mini Challenge over on More Than Words Challenge Blog and this is my DT inspiration for this month. The challenge word is IDOL and this word must appear on the actual project. For my project I created an ATC which yes, features another cat!
Very unusually for me, I have been trying to work ahead, and like my last few Main Challenge projects, I also worked on the last few Mini projects all at the same time. This is because I have a lot going on this year and I want to make it easier on myself (four year-long courses hello!) I sat down and sketched out some ideas including this one for the June Mini Challenge… It is funny where your mind goes when you just let it wander. As you can see in the notes, mine went to Indiana Jones lol, I guess I was thinking of that scene where he grabs the idol and gets chased by the giant boulder. But I didn’t go down that route in the end, I went to Egyptian cat worship instead, and that quote that you often see about cats being worshipped as gods.
After I drew the cat sketch, I painted the cat with black metallic watercolour and the background with gold metallic watercolour. I went over some of it with black Pitt pen and gold marker, and added the eyes in green, then decorated the collar with some pyramids and a scarab beetle or some approximation of one. I used some scraps of blue painted watercolour paper to add the frame and the pedestal for the cat to sit on so it could be worshipped and look down on us lowly humans. I typed out the word IDOL and the quote that inspired me, and attached the word only to the pedestal.
So that was my ATC complete and I think the cat does look like it expects to be worshipped don’t you think?
In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods.
They have never forgotten this.
Hope you liked this little ATC, let me know in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!
More Than Words Mini Challenge – This challenge requires you to use a specific word on your project so the word IDOL has to appear on the card. Entry for the Mini Challenge is now also held on the blog under the relevant post. Visit the MTW blog for more details of prizes and sponsors and some amazing inspiration from the Design Team.
Challenges
So that was what was on my lovely clean desk when I wrote the post, but today is a different matter! I am still in the process of switching rooms, all the big stuff is moved but the contents of some of the cupboards and wardrobes still have to be switched, so today my desk looks like this:
Can you see it? It’s over there on the right with a pile of stuff on it that’s not supposed to be there and a cup of tea! I can’t actually sit at it to make anything so that will be my job for today. Right now, I am at that halfway point where everything is chaos and the only option is to either put it all back or keep going lol. All of the upstairs rooms and the landing all have things in them that are not supposed to be there and it is making all the rooms unusable until I get this job finished. I had to abandon it yesterday to hack down my overgrown garden before it rained, so that meant a whole day of no progress on this mess. The cats are pretty excited about this kind of thing though as they get to investigate places they have never been before…
I had taken a photo of my fabric stash before I moved it to the other room but I can’t even find the photo now haha. It’s probably on my phone rather than my camera. A spot of decluttering / destashing is in order I think! It’s fine when all of this stuff is safely tucked away inside a cupboard and you can kind of forget how much is there, but then when you see it all out in the open, you realise just how much there is, and that none of it is really being used! One of the things that made it worse is that I used to sell craft supplies so I had/have a lot of quantities of items that I was never going to get through on my own lol. So I did donate two carloads of craft stuff to a local charity last year but it doesn’t seem to have made a dent in the stash!

Hi Elle, doing my best to get round everyone but it’s been a busy week. Loving your kittie ATC. Good luck with getting everything sorted too. Happy belated woyww, Angela x14x
What a fabulous post, Elle – absolutely love the Egyptian kitty card (and yes, don’t they just love being put on a pedestal and being worshipped!!) and I laughed out loud at your little feline helpers as you move rooms! Hope you get through the chaos soon. Join the club – I’m in the midst of a major clear out/tidy up/reorganise in my studio. It always gets a lot worse before it gets better.
Happy belated WOYWW to you and your kitties from me and our kitties,

Your ATC is darling. I love it. Have a beautiful day my friend.
Oh my goodness I laughed at the picture of the cat in the hanger – aren’t they funny! And I love the cat ATC – gorgeous image and that blue border is stunning, and so perfectly Egyptian. I hope you get your sorting done soon – it’s that ‘worse before it gets better’ stage that I hate, that and the realisation that I have more stuff than storage space!!
Have a good week

Good luck with the remaining sorting/decluttering Elle. Love the cat miniature – perfect for the prompt. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #3
I’m not sure we crafter ever destash, there’s always something hiding in a cupboard somewhere, well in my house anyway. I hope you can soon find some order and at least get to your desk soon. The cat appears to have claimed one of your craft baskets hee hee.
Happy WoywW Tracey #9
No, they have never forgotten! We have two such royal felines.
My desk and craft storage look like yours, but I managed to clear a small worktop so I haven’t had to finish. . . and my stash is just lying there. . . wondering if it will ever find a home or be used.
Stay well
Happy Wednesday
