Hi everyone, happy Saturday, hope your weekend is going well so far! Our weather has turned cold and wet again, it’s so disappointing after enjoying some weeks of nice weather and now it’s school holidays and the weather is rainy – typical! I spent the day doing work around the house, but it wasn’t so bad as one of the things I did turned out to inspire my journal spread today! Here’s a look at our current bed linen – look at all those beautiful butterflies!
So I decided to do one more art journal spread for the Butterfly challenge on AJJ this month and that I would try to recreate a similar look on my page. I started with some stamping…
This is quite a lot of butterflies, about 60 I think, not nearly as many as on my last page which had 100, but this time instead of stencilling and drawing them on, I thought I would give myself a break and stamp some on instead. I pulled out several butterfly stamps, some by Finnabair, some by Tim Holtz, and stamped them all over the page, overlapping, some second and third generation stamping using Versafine ink which is water resistant. Then I used watercolour pencils to colour them in using different shades of pinks and purples and then paint them out with a wet brush.
I added more details using Polychromos pencils, Pitt pens and Posca paint pens. Amidst all those colourful butterflies, I left one little butterfly white, and I was going to paint him too but then I liked the idea of having one unpainted, and it got me thinking about what to write on my page.
Be a unicorn in a field of horses
(or should that be: “be a white butterfly in a field of pink and violet butterflies” lol
As a finishing touch, I added some of my favourite gold splatter, this time with metallic watercolour.
The page is finished but I had to wait for the gold paint to dry…
Once everything was dry, I added the page into my art journal and held it open with some clips.
Let me know what you think in the comments. Tomorrow I should have my next batch of ICADs completed. I have already started painting the next batch of nine, as I’m trying to keep on top of things. As always, thanks for reading!

A gorgeous page of colourful butterflies, the stamp images you used are lovely.
I like the linen you got your inspiration from as well. Thank you for linking with Mia’s theme over ar Art Journal Journey
OMGosh. This is stunning, stunning, stunning. I love how you colored each of the butterflies and in so doing, some blended into the background. i absolutely LOVE this and it’s perfect for Mia’s theme at Art Journal Journey, too.
That is gorgeous bed linen. I would love beautifully printed bed linen but my husband hates it. Seeing he is so accommodating in every other way I give him the plain bed linen. Smile. Anyhow, what inspiring bed linen and it certainly got you creating a gorgeous page. I love it. Those butterflies are beautiful and such a pretty color too. Thanks for sharing this with us for Mia’s challenge. And hope the weather improves soon too. Hugs-Erika
