Hello friends,

Happy Wednesday!  We are all doing well here, two of the kitties went for annual vaccinations last week and there was a bit of shenanigans trying to get them into their baskets but not as bad as it could have been.  Miss Lily didn’t react well to the vaccines and was shaking for most of the day and comfort purring at herself, which they do sometimes when they don’t feel well, but she was fine after a lot of sleeping.  Mr G had no side effects from that, and is doing quite well otherwise.  My other cat gets her booster at a different time, so at least I don’t have to wrangle all three of them at the same time!  She is in total hibernation mode and didn’t get out of bed yesterday till 2pm! Then she goes outside for a wander for about an hour then she wants back in to eat and sleep.  She might have been a bear in a previous life lol.

And since today is National Black Cat Day, here is a photo of them…

Black cats are the least adopted cats for whatever reason, some say superstition, others say because they are harder to photograph for all those selfies, but look at these two, not hard to photograph at all!

today’s desk . . .

I have been doing a bit of painting and practising my pumpkins.  As you can see, the desk shows the fallout from that lol.

From left to right, paint pens, candle, glue stick, acrylic ink, more candles, Pitt pens, calendar, paint palettes, bowls of stuff, masking tape, brushes, paint, and SAD lamp.  I really need the SAD lamp at the moment as it’s so dark in the studio I can’t see what I’m doing!  As you can see I have one proper paint palette and one old amazon box as I have a bad habit of using whatever is handy. I have another bad habit of never putting anything away, which is why the desk looks like it does on a regular basis!

how to leave a comment . . .

There’s been a few comments lately about where to find the comment box – it’s easy!  Scroll to the bottom of the page and it’s right above the footer.  The footer is black so if you hit the black section you’ve gone too far.  Alternately, click on the green floating speech bubble on the right side or you can just leave a comment by clicking right here which will open a little comment box.

today’s journal page . . .

Today’s spread is inspired by this month’s challenge over on Art Journal Journey, Charlie Brown, Linus and of course, The Great Pumpkin!  It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966) is a timeless Halloween movie for the whole family.  Here’s the movie intro…

Perhaps you might have grown up watching Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Snoopy, and the rest of the gang celebrating Halloween and hoping to get a visit from the elusive Great Pumpkin.

I used a selection of Heavy Body acrylics to paint the background and the pumpkins.  The background was painted with this Liquitex Muted Grey which is a purpleish grey colour.  This is part of a Special Release set of muted colours across all their paint range that was released a few years ago.  They frequently go out of stock so I guess other people like them too lol but they are still available if you want to check them out, Muted Turquoise is especially gorgeous. Read about them here on the Jackson’s blog.

Once the background was dry, I started on the pumpkins, giving them a light base colour because the background is so dark.

A few more layers of paints and they have started to look like pumpkins (or big orange tomatoes lol).

More details added with paint pens and Pitt pens, including adding their faces and more shading.

To finish off, I added part of the letter that Linus writes to the Great Pumpkin.

I hope he brings me lots of presents too!  Halloween presents would be such fun!  Or lots of pumpkins so I could make soup, pumpkin soup is my favourite soup!

Let me know what you think in the comments.   As always, thanks for reading!Ingredients

I got an error message twice when I tried to post. Not good having to type it in more than once. Sorry I’m late visiting. I’ve had a terrible time catching up, which is hard once I got behind.

Your Great Pumpkins are wonderful and you can never go wrong quoting Linus. Let’s see of this publishes.

Sorry I’m so late but I just seem to have slowed down to a snail’s pace this year. I feel for your Miss Lily. Bless her. I hope she’s got over her trauma by now. Love the photo of your two black cats. My granddaughter has to very similar – Salem & Sage – and they are lovely, wicked but still lovely! I’ve heard it said before about black cats being the most difficult to home but we’ve had a few in our family over the years – the first when I was a child – and they have been wonderful pets. Love your pumpkins. Have a great weekend. Elizabeth x #23

This makes me sooo happy! I absolutely adore that Halloween special as they were called when we waited so anxiously by the tv for them to finally appear! The colors are so great on this cover! Your pumpkins are too perfect for words and I LOVE the quote! We always had a black cat or two at my home with my parents and my grown up home!:) I think they are gorgeous!

Poor Miss Lily, having a bad reaction like that. Our two are always fine. They are also very, very good, both travelling to the vet and during their time there. They are so pretty that they always get admired in the waiting room too which is good for their egos probably! Where we live now, the vet is only a 5 minute drive away but they never cry in the car. Very different from where we used to live and we had Beatrice and Phoebe – terrible yowlings for the whole 20 minute drive, and stuff used to come out of every oriface in Phoebe’s body, and Beatrice wold cower at the back of the cat carrier trying not to get covered! The vet always had to replace the incontinence pad we always travelled with! I am glad Miss Lily felt better after a good rest.

Happy WOYWW,
