Happy Saturday! Hope you have something fun planned for the weekend, something arty maybe? The weather outside is frightful, so we will be staying inside and playing with paint! The end is in sight – I only have three more journal pages to complete before the end of the month! After all the busy-ness of this month, whatever will I do next month?
today’s journal page . . .
Today’s spread is inspired by Halloween of course, but also Miss Lily.
A few weeks ago I took quite a lot of photos of her as I was going to attempt to paint her portrait. This is the photo I decided to use since she was looking directly at the camera…
I thought it would be fun to have a black cat page for Halloween, and I thought of various ways of doing it, or just drawing a generic black cat, but then remembered that I said I was going to paint Miss Lily, so I thought I would start by using this photo of her and doing her in pastel.
I like to start with the eyes first
The paper you see on the right is glassine paper
Glassine stops my hand smudging everything
Three hours later…
The journal page I am using is this one which I painted with Violet fluid acrylic.
Then I started to draw another version of Miss Lily that makes her look like an alien…
My mind drifted off and I started thinking about cats and Halloween costumes… Maybe Miss Lily would like to be a Halloween Cat?
Or maybe the Halloween Cat wants to be Miss Lily?
Cat on the left painted in pastels – took over 3 hours. Cat on the left painted in acrylics – took 10 mins LOL. The pastel version isn’t even finished, I’m not happy with her mouth and she’s too still blue for my liking. I really like how her eyes and her ears turned out, and I love the violet background.
So I’m thinking that Miss Lily wants to dress up as a Halloween Cat and go Trick or Treating on Halloween! It would make a very cool mask for her, with the glowing, luminous eyes, don’t you think?

Actually, Miss Lily looks good period. But the pastel is stunning., Really out of this world gorgeous. You see imperfections and I see an amazing portrait. LOVE both of these and they are both great for Tracey’s theme at Art Journal Journey.
