Hello friends,

Hope you are having a good week and getting some arty crafty time.  I am happy to report that I watched some classes from the Virtual Art Summit which is currently happening and I also got some journal pages made yesterday/today!  This post is for the first page as although they are related, I like to keep things in separate posts. It’s a very dull day today and there is either something wrong with my camera or it is just down to the weather but the photos are darker than I would like them to be even after Photoshopping them but hopefully they are good enough to show the details.

today’s art . . .

This page is intended for some current challenges – Art Journal Journey has a bird challenge this month and Country View Challenges has a cat challenge and now I see that Try it on Tuesday has a butterfly challenge and look I have little butterflies on my page!  (see end of post for challenge details).  This is my second page which, like the first page, started off as my attempt at making blog birds from the Terry Runyan Sketchbook Revival class but this time I didn’t even try to make them look like birds, I just made them look like blobby cats.  Here’s a look at both pages at the blob stage…

The class was about making blobs randomly on the page and turning them into birds and some into cats so for this page I I tried to make them look more like cats but still like blobs.  Unlike my other page, I couldn’t see an obvious scene developing for these cats so I decided to just keep working on the cat details and then see how I felt about the page. I also stuck to just the two colours – turquoise and pink.

I added some bird washi tape and some “meow” labels using my hateful label maker – not one of these labels is in one piece – I had to chop them up and splice them together since it seems to be beyond the label maker to do a single label accurately… but anyway, moving on…  this one cat looks like he might have eaten a few birds!

I gave the cats some ground to sit on and drew some butterflies to give them something else to entertain them along with the birds.

This quote by Albert Einstein (allegedly) seemed appropriate.  🙂  Since I gave all the cats stripey tails I thought I would add a stripey border to the page.

Hope you feel inspired to join in the challenges this month.

Let me know what you think in the comments.   As always, thanks for reading!Ingredients

How clever. I like this second page and Bleubeard even liked the stripes on the cat’s tails. So adorable and I like the “alleged” quote, too. Thanks for sharing another fun entry with us at Art Journal Journey using Matilde’s theme.

I think this page is fabulous’! I love your blobby cats, each one a character on its own. What a good idea to make a striped border to match in with the tails of the cats. That is nice washi tape with the birds on and my days of having cats taught me that Albert was right in his quote – you cannot teach a cat not to catch birds.
Hugs, Neet xx

I love the pink and blue kitties. They are lots of fun! They have great expressions! And they made me smile. Thanks again for sharing with us at AJJ for Matilde’s challenge. These 2 pages both made the challenge a little brighter. hugs-Erika
