Hello friends,
As I mentioned in a previous post, we have a sick kitty so I have been on kitty-watch and so I put together a portable kit so I could work anywhere and keep an eye on her and try to calm my mind with some art journalling. My “kit” consists of some Tombow markers, waterbrush, paint pens, white gel pen, and some Pitt pens though I didn’t use those on this page.
today’s art . . .
I thought I would try really hard to make a page that was all birds and not a cat in sight! So this is what I came up with and here’s a look at how it started out on Friday night.
This is one of my handmade journals that I like to use and I just have a few pages left to fill in this one and then it will be complete and I can decorate the cover. I started off scribbling some shapes with some Tombow markers.
The shapes then turned into very bright and colourful birds, less blobby than the birds from last week, and I used only these three colours.
I was wondering what to do with all that white space in between the birds, and decided to draw some really big yellow leaves.
I added some patterns to the leaves and I had already added a patterned border around the edge of the page which started to remind me of watermelon!
I didn’t want to leave the background as white so I coloured it with a light grey Tombow and a waterbrush.
I still thought there was too much free space so I added these white flowers to the background
It was all starting to give me a tropical vibe.
Hope you feel inspired to join in the challenges this month.
Let me know what you think in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!Ingredients

These birds have great personality Elle. I think working with just a kit really pushes artists to be creative, maybe even more creative than when there are lots of supplies available. You certainly created a wonderful spread for MAtilde’s challenge at AJJ. Thanks again for sharing with us. Hugs-Erika
Wow, Elle. Club Tropicana is wonderful. Such great birds, leaves, and flowers. This spread turned out great. Thanks for sharing yet another incredible journal spread with us at Art Journal Journey using Matilde’s theme.
