Hello friends!

Bit of a funny weather day today, but at least no rain, so we were able to get some stuff done outside but it’s not so much fun when it’s 10 degrees colder and the sun is in hiding.  Did get some time for some art this morning though…

Today’s Art . . .

For today’s art I am sharing the page for Day 17 of my #eotcartjournalaugust prompt which was BLACK/WHITE.

Day 17 BLACK/WHITE #eotcartjournalaugust

“I move from dreamer to dreamer, from dream to dream, hunting for what I need. Slipping and sliding and flickering through dreams; and the dreamers will wake and wonder why this dream seemed different, wonder how real their lives can truly be.”
~ Dream

So guess what I’ve been watching!

I’ve finally got some free time to start watching The Sandman on Netflix!  I am a huge fan of both the graphic novel series and the author, Neil Gaiman, and so today’s black and white prompt really had to be a bit of Sandman fan art.

Some years ago we met the man himself, Neil Gaiman, for a book signing in Glasgow.  He was a super nice guy, very generously signed all my books and chatted with my mum. She was charmed and impressed!  He was there to launch his latest book, which I bought at the signing, but I also brought all my Neil Gaiman books with me in the hope that he might sign some of them, and he signed all of them and chatted away while he was doing so. I wish I had been drawing fanart then as it would have been cool to have my drawing signed too!

I am also linking this page to Art Journal Journey for the “When we were young” theme for the Sandman reference, which is something I believed in as a kid.  My mum used to always tell me that the Sandman came at night to put sand in your eyes to send you to sleep and that’s why I woke up with gritty eyes.

Here Comes the Sandman’
Here comes the Sandman, stepping so lightly,
Creeping along on the tips of his toes.
As he scatters the sand with his own tiny hand,
In the eyes of the sleepy children.
Go to sleep my darling, close your weary eyes,
The lady moon is watching from out the starry skies.
The little stars are peeping, to see if you are sleeping,
Go to sleep, my darling, go to sleep, good night.

Who knew that years later I would be creating Sandman art journal pages or fanart!  Not me!

Let me know what you think in the comments.   As always, thanks for reading!

I think it’s fascinating you actually met Niel Gaiman. Elle. I’ve never been to a book signing, but I have gone to hear a few different authors speak. I haven’t watched the Sandman yet, but maybe not since your drawing looks a bit spooky. Your drawing is absolutely amazing. Isn’t it interesting as children we always have something we believe in that we now know isn’t real? Thanks for sharing it with us for Chris’ challenge at AJJ. I hope you had a great THursday. hugs-Erika

A great graphic from Dream! I’ve already watched a bit of “Sandman” on Netflix, too 🙂 Lucky you even met Neil Gaiman in person!
All the best,
Traude

Wow Elle! He’s a scary chap! Is he like you imagined the sandman as a child?
The poem depicts a much friendlier guy!!
Thanks so much for sharing this memory for my AJJ theme, hugs, Chrisx
