A Cat Of A Different Colour

Hello friends!

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been working on some cat pages for Neet’s theme this month on Art Journal Journey as I had time over the weekend to sit down and just make stuff, so I have another one to share with you today.

Today’s Art . . .

I’ve been trying not to paint all my cats black, tempting though that is, so today we have a cat of a different colour.  Now do we think this cat looks like a girl or a boy cat?

She (she looks like a she to me, I think it’s the eyes that look feminine?) started out as a sketch in bad lighting while I was re-watching Longmire on Free Vee (Love a bit of Longmire but really sick of the repetitive ads).  I sketched a couple of other cats too so you can expect to see more cats coming up soon.  I couldn’t really see that well what I was doing and didn’t want to lean too heavily and leave too many lines but I think she turned out OK.  I had to make some body adjustments next day in the daylight, but I do like her eyes.

I remembered to paint the background first.  I nearly always forget to do this as I always want to get straight to the interesting bits like the eyes.

Or in this case, maybe that should be the ears lol.  I wanted to get the colour right for her ears before I mixed up a colour for her coat. I know that colour looks really dark but it dries a lot lighter and less like her ears are bleeding.  Looking at this photo now, I quite like her as a white cat too.

Then I started to paint the face and body, it took several coats.

I always intend to change the eye colours and not make them all green all the time, but guess what happened!   Yup they are green, again.

This is my muse for today, this little kitty from the cat food packet.  It was really the pose I was trying to get right though I seem to have her looking right at me instead of over to the right lol.

The quote is one by Christopher Hitchens and reads:

It makes me laugh and reminds me of another shorter quote about cats in Ancient Egypt.

Either way, cats expect to be treated like royalty and waited on by us lowly human servants lol.  I have two of them staring at the back of my head right now as supper is overdue, so I will get this scheduled for Thursday and go apologise to their highnesses for the delay lol.
