Hi Friends,

Happy Tuesday everyone.  I haven’t been online for a few reasons, weather, weekend and a bit of ill health, but nothing too serious. Hope your week is going well so far, I will try and catch up on my commenting this week, not really been up to being online.

Today’s Art . . .

Today’s art is a page using my Day 10 & 11 prompts:  Storytelling and Signs/Symbols

I was thinking about owls being often represented as studious or wise, and it made me think of the Storytelling Owl, the Disney Professor Owl and also the Wise Owl from Winnie-the-Pooh so I decided to try and paint an owl to fit across the double page for the storytelling link.

This is the result, using watercolour and coloured pencils.  I’m quite happy with it as I don’t think I’ve ever painted an owl before!

Then for the signs/symbols prompt I used some gold paint and a Stamperia stencil to all all the gold symbols to the background.

Hope you feel inspired to join in the challenge this month and have fun with it!

T Stands For . . . Happy Mail, pumpkins, books, and cats.

I have happy mail to share this week!  All postcards, most from friends/family and one from Postcrossing.  The Halloween one at the bottom arrived yesterday, damaged in the mail which is such a pity.  I often worry about postcards travelling through the system as they don’t have much protection.  As I think I mentioned last week, 1st October was World Postcard Day.

The postcard with the cat on the top row came from China and has some really nice stamps. I thought Lisca might appreciate seeing them.  🙂

I also picked up some very cheap secondhand books…

I bought the bird book and herb book to cut up and use in my journal, but the Joy of Sketch book I will be using as an art book.  If you look closely at the cover, there is a cup of  what looks like hot chocolate on the cover, which is my ticket to tea this week.

I moved the couch into this room last week and immediately it was taken over – just where am I supposed to sit?

Here’s Miss P relaxing this morning in a big furry cat bed I made last year for the kitten’s birthday.  She’s taken a liking to it for overnight sleeps and doesn’t care that it doesn’t belong to her.

And finally, I’ve been making some very quick and basic felt pumpkins to put into a seasonal display for the house. I’m just wondering how to prevent the cats from batting them about as cat toys lol.

Let me know what you think in the comments.   As always, thanks for reading!

Daily Prompts

Here are the prompts I will be using and you can probably tell that a lot of them are related to fairytales, but you don’t have to use them that way or you don’t have to use them at all.  I will be attempting all 31 days but I may not make it and that’s OK too.  The prompts are there if you feel stuck or in need of extra inspiration.   I just respond well to a daily prompt and I will also be sharing my pages on Instagram.  If you share your work on Instagram there is a hashtag.  Please note, that to enter the Art Journal Journey challenge using the Mr Linky tool, you will have to link from a blog since it is a blog challenge.

Or you can ignore the daily prompts completely and focus on the overarching theme for the month.  The daily prompts are there if you want to make more pages but need some extra prompting.

Great post Elle. I love your beautiful owl painting. And the cats are gorgeous as always. Those second hand books will be useful. I’m reading a Lisa Jewell book at the moment, she’s become a favourite author lately, after a recommendation from a friend. And for light relief I’ve read some books by Julia Quinn, the author of bridgerton. They’re quite amusing little love stories set in the 1800’s.
Happy reading,
Alison x

Loving the owl! The happy mail AND the stamps are fabulous. What great pumkins. I hope the cats don’t see them as toys! Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx

Hi Elle, I’m sorry you didn’t feel well, but luckily you write that it’s nothing serious. I’ve also rarely been to my computer lately. Our cat, Nina, went over the Rainbow Bridge, so I wrote an obituary for her, and I visit blog friends from time to time, but I don’t feel like blogging myself. But the sight of your beautiful cats makes my heart happy. And your owl is a great work of art – you did it perfectly, a feast for the eyes!
I wish you wonderful October days!
All the best from Austria,
Traude

I LOVE your owl! Beautiful! So nice to see your feline friends too. I do think they may try to steal one or two of your felt pumpkins though. ?

Love the felt pumpkins! If I didn’t have a hundred other things to do, I would use the prompts; they are great ones. Your owl is amazing, by the way. Happy T Day.

That owl is amazing Elle. I love that page. The gold image you added to the background is great! And nice postcards too. And also those used books. I love finding books like that I can use for art. Your pumpkins look great, and like your cats, my dogs think felt items are their toys. I’ve lost a few decorations that way. I’m filling in for Elizabeth for T this week, so I’ll say thanks for joining us, and I hope you had a great T day-and are feeling better. Hugs-Erika

Your felt pumpkins are super cute! I really like the owl – you painted it beautifully. We have a pair of Great Horned Owls residing in the trees across from our house and we can hear them every evening “talking” to each other. – If I had your address, I would send you a postcard as well!

Love the combination of watercolor and colored pencil on your owl. It looks fantastic!
Great score on books. I have that watercolor book on my to-read list. Please share your thoughts on it when you are done reading.
Loving all the postcards you received.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
