Hi Friends,

Hope your weekend is going well.  Today I am sharing a double page spread based on yesterday’s and today’s prompts.

Today’s Art . . .

Today’s art is a double page spread using my Day 23 prompt:  Weather

Weather lore is very interesting isn’t it.  There are a lot of old sayings that have survived the years and continue to be used, like this one:

Red sky at night, shepherd’s delight
Red sky in the morning, shepherd’s warning

or some variation there of, shepherd’s warning, or shepherd’s take warning, and so on.  Also sometimes you will see a version substituting shepherd for sailor.  It’s one that can definitely be relied upon, at least the red sky at night part, as a guarantee of good weather the next day.  I’m not so sure I’ve seen the red sky in the morning, but it doesn’t sound like good news.

The saying is most reliable when weather systems predominantly come from the west as they do in the UK. A red sky at sunset means high pressure is moving in from the west, so therefore the next day will usually be dry and pleasant. “Red sky in the morning, shepherds warning” means a red sky appears due to the high-pressure weather system having already moved east meaning the good weather has passed, most likely making way for a wet and windy low-pressure systemSource

I live on the West coast of the UK, and so we can watch the sunset over the sea and watch the sky turn red and know that good weather is on the way, as the above article says.

My page is a watercolour sunset with a lot of red in the mix.  Once that was dry I drew in some (too many) trees with black acrylic, and then wrote part of the saying across the sky with a reddish marker.

Hope you feel inspired to join in the challenge this month and have fun with it!

Let me know what you think in the comments.   As always, thanks for reading!

Daily Prompts

Here are the prompts I will be using and you can probably tell that a lot of them are related to fairytales, but you don’t have to use them that way or you don’t have to use them at all.  I will be attempting all 31 days but I may not make it and that’s OK too.  The prompts are there if you feel stuck or in need of extra inspiration.   I just respond well to a daily prompt and I will also be sharing my pages on Instagram.  If you share your work on Instagram there is a hashtag.  Please note, that to enter the Art Journal Journey challenge using the Mr Linky tool, you will have to link from a blog since it is a blog challenge.

Or you can ignore the daily prompts completely and focus on the overarching theme for the month.  The daily prompts are there if you want to make more pages but need some extra prompting.

I’ve also only heard it “sailor,” but I really love what you have created. That incredible bright pink to purple sky is fascinating and goes so well with the trees you drew. Thank you for sharing this with us using your theme at AJJ.

We always say this with the word sailor. And I’ve seen the red sky in the morning. It’s always so pretty but sure enough the rain will come. Very nice page Elle. I like how you left the trees along the bottom and made such a nice color gradient. Hope it was a great Monday. hugs-Erika

Very beautiful! I know of neither quote – but I remember when I was in Dover, in a tent with my back-then boyfriend. A baby was crying!!!! Outside, in the night!
He found out… it was a sheep. It sounded like a baby, I swear.
