Hi Friends,
Happy Saturday! It’s been a busy old day so far, but I had to stop and get this post written up. Did you know that today is National Cat Day in the US? Probably if you are in the US then you do, especially if you are a cat lover. In honour of this day and of course, my Fairytale theme, I have another cat page – yay! There are only two more pages left and I have already finished tomorrow’s page, and still trying to work out something for the 31st page. Hopefully I can work that out tomorrow.
Today’s Art . . .
Today’s art is another page using my Day 29 prompt: Puss in Boots
I did plan to go with the original fairytale story of Puss in Boots but then I remembered the reinvention of the character from the Shrek movies and of course the spin-off movie of Puss in Boots. So this morning as I started sketching over breakfast, my brain went to the movie versions instead. You can see my inspiration here in the movie posters etc.
The original story: “Puss in Boots” is an Italian fairy tale, later spread throughout the rest of Europe, about an anthropomorphic cat who uses trickery and deceit to gain power, wealth, and the hand of a princess in marriage for his penniless and low-born master.
In the 2011 movie: Puss in Boots is an outlaw cat, and with his childhood egg-friend, and a seductive thief kitty, he sets out in search for the eggs of the fabled Golden Goose to clear his name, restore his lost honor, and regain the trust of his mother and town.
I started off with watercolour, switched to neocolours, and then finished off with pitt artist pens and poscas. Then I added some black letter stickers down the right hand side to spell out the name of this dashing pussycat.
Hope you feel inspired to join in the challenge this month and have fun with it!
Let me know what you think in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!

Daily Prompts
Here are the prompts I will be using and you can probably tell that a lot of them are related to fairytales, but you don’t have to use them that way or you don’t have to use them at all. I will be attempting all 31 days but I may not make it and that’s OK too. The prompts are there if you feel stuck or in need of extra inspiration. I just respond well to a daily prompt and I will also be sharing my pages on Instagram. If you share your work on Instagram there is a hashtag. Please note, that to enter the Art Journal Journey challenge using the Mr Linky tool, you will have to link from a blog since it is a blog challenge.
Or you can ignore the daily prompts completely and focus on the overarching theme for the month. The daily prompts are there if you want to make more pages but need some extra prompting.
I LOVE this tale. I’d never heard of it before, so I am glad you shared the real story of the fairytale. I adore the paintings. You draw so well.
I know, I know. I’m a month late, but I am determined to see the last of your great stories and tails (oops, tales).
I love your paintings, Elle! You’re so talented 🙂
I love your kitties. I had a wonderful and huge (not fat-just huge) orange cat named Leo and he reminded me of Puss in Boots. I should have gotten him a hat like that-smile. I miss him still, so I particularly love your page today. It’s a fun one. I hope you’re having a great weekend. Hugs-Erika
Isn´t this the weirdest! “Der gestiefelte Kater”!!!!!
<aBertiebo from The Netherlands woke up in the middle of the night and suddenly knew of this!! And when she told me, I remembered as kid I once saw this fairy, but only that one time!
Great page and I wonder why I forgot about the tale!
