Hi Friends,

Happy Tuesday!  Hope you all have a great week!  Well I was going to have another busy month but actually I’ve decided to drop all the things that I was going to join in with that would have taken up the whole month.  I’m tired and need to focus on Christmas stuff to be made, and do some of that self-care that people keep talking about.

Today’s Art . . .

Today’s art is something I made at the weekend while I was catching up with The Handmaid’s Tale.  I felt inspired to do some sketching so I grabbed my journal and this is the result.

It’s a page that came from nowhere and was fun to do while I was watching the show.  I spent the weekend watching this and doing nothing else!  If you don’t know the show, then it is based on one of my all time favourite books, top ten for sure, The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.  I love it so much I have three copies…

The one on the top right is a special edition with red sprayed pages and pretty endpapers…

The one on the bottom left is my first copy from 1990 and the one on the right is the TV tie in from 2017.

Here’s my sketch before I decided I could probably also colour it while watching the show, so I grabbed my neocolours and a water brush and started adding some colour.

The headgear she is wearing is called wings, and it is supposed to shade her face.  I really need to work on my shading!

The oranges and the quote are both from the book and season one of the show even though I was watching season three.  The Latin quote I will leave you to google, the oranges are significant in the story due to food shortages and excitement about seeing oranges in the food shop.  Oranges are a rare luxury but she still can’t have any as she doesn’t have a token for oranges.  I am also joining in with Bleubeard and Elizabeth on Art Journal Journey this month with my oranges and a little bit of book paper collage.

T Stands For . . . Fairytale October Journal Flip and Cover

Here’s a look at the cover for my Fairytale October journal.  I used (fake) gold leaf on it and a stencil.  Once it was done, I managed to do a quick flip through of my journal, though that was the quickest bit of the whole process!
I recorded and edited and uploaded the video and then as I submitted it to Instagram, it chopped off the last few pages as the time limit is 90 seconds and mine was slightly longer, so then I had to start over, edit it down, speed it up and try again, how frustrating!    So here it is…

It should be viewable even if you don’t have an Instagram account.

Did you notice how many cats appeared on these pages?  A total of 30!  I’m tempted to go add another one so there will be 31, one for each day.

Let me know what you think in the comments.   As always, thanks for reading!

Brilliant sketching – one of the books and TV shows I’ve yet to discover. I love your book cover. A very belated Happy T Day, Chrisx

My sincere apologies for the very late visit. My internet has been offline for well over a day. Between my blogger issues and the internet, I am really stressed out.

I love the journal cover. It is dramatic. I think an extra cat would be appropriate. And of course, I really loved the Handmaid’s Tale. Atwood is a great writer and you are a great painter/artist. You portrayed this great! Thanks for sharing this amazing beauty with us at Art Journal Journey using Bleubeard’s and my theme. And thanks for sharing your October journal with us for T this week dear.

Your cover of your fairytale book came out great Elle. The gold looks amazing on it. And I’m with you about adding 1 more cat to make it 31. I also like your handmaiden page too. I haven’t seen the show but I remember the movie from a long time back. It definitely sticks with you. And the book does too. I hope it was a great T day. hugs-Erika

Your painting of the Handmaid’s Tale is fabulous, even though I am not a big fan of the novel and therefore haven’t watched the movies either. Are they true to the book? Your October journal is so beautiful, and yes I noticed there were a lot of cats involved. I didn’t expect anything less!

Gorgeous face on the Handmaiden. Your Fairytale book is awesome. I really enjoyed the flip through. Black cats are my weakness, too. Happy T Day

Margaret Atwood has been a favorite of mine for ages — I read The Edible Woman while it was still her only novel, and I have several of her early poetry collections, plus all (or maybe almost all) the fiction. But you are ahead of me: I don’t have multiple editions of any of them!
