Hi Friends,
Hello again from a much warmer Scotland this week. We are back to the usual wind and rain weather and the temperature is nearly 20 degrees (C) warmer than it was last week, hard to fathom when it is still only 11C haha. Last week was brutal, I really can’t handle the cold here and this weather was extreme and worse with no heating. The no heating is not a choice btw, I can’t afford to replace the heating system so I have to do without until I can. Simple but tough. To everyone who asked about frozen pipes, there was only one pipe that froze overnight on one of the colder -8C days and that was the drain under the bath, but actually that has frozen before when the heating was working so I think it is just really exposed compared to the rest. It didn’t last for long, and it didn’t burst or cause any damage since there was no water building up in it.
After some weeks of Miss Lily being unwell, I was hoping to report that she was better, and she was doing better, right up until Friday night, and so we were back at the vets again yesterday for another round of medications. And just to top it off, Mr G has also joined her in being under the weather, and they were both vomiting during the night. I’ve not had a lot of sleep…
This photo was taken last week when they were both feeling relatively healthy but now it all feels a bit like they are saying Bah Humbug!
Today’s Art . . .
I am trying to do Art Journal Advent, Care December, Dephemerember but with all the cat illness and the cold temperatures, I am not succeeding. It’s very hard to get your fingers to work when you can’t feel them lol. The current situation is that I have done several pages for #Dephemerember which I will show you below, I have pages in progress for #artjournaladvent but nothing finished, and I am at much the same stage with #caredecember but maybe a little more behind. All of these things are supposed to be making you feel better about life at this time of year, so I am trying not to feel bad about not keeping up since that would defeat the purpose!
These are also pages for #dephemerember. This year as well as the daily prompts they are also featuring a different animal each day and have provided free printables which you can see sitting in front of my journal. Sometimes I am using them on the page, but I also printed a copy to use as journalling cards.
Currently Reading . . .
I was reading this book last week but if anyone is interested it seems to be SOLD OUT everywhere! There is not a copy to be had even on amazon!
If you are looking for something fun to read over Christmas, I would suggest you try her previous book, The Christmas Murder Game, which is available everywhere and only £5 on amazon atm. We just finished it with our book group, and one of the fun things about the print version is that it contains games for the reader, that involve finding anagrams in the book or finding the titles of other mystery books hidden in the text. There’s even a wordsearch at the back of the book and a Cluedo layout of the country house they are all staying in!

T Stands For . . .
I picked up this free magazine in Boots (chemist) and I am currently dissecting it to use in my journal. Beside it is of course my beloved Cat Mum mug. I tried to buy a Dog Mum mug for my friend but they were all gone. I meant to pick one up weeks ago when they still had plenty of stock, I know she would have loved it, but I guess they were popular and all that was left was Dog Dad which I didn’t need.
And also while it was cold last week I ventured out to the garden and took some frosty photos. I am sharing just a couple of them below – the leaves look amazing!
This bush next to the bench is a Japanese Holly Bush, it normally has really big red berries but I can’t see any yet.
The leaves look like they are almost furry lol
And finally, the mail strikes here are continuing to be a problem both with incoming and outgoing mail. I have received hardly anything that I was supposed to receive from others and no one has received mine despite them being posted weeks ago. To top it off they will be on strike again on 23rd and 24th December which are usually days where you will receive lots of last minute Christmas mail, but this year we won’t. 🙁 They have the right to strike etc, but I think if they don’t watch out people will find other ways to send their mail and they won’t be needed anymore, and then what? There will be 115,000 postal workers with nothing to deliver! People are already switching to other carriers.
Let me know what you think in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!

Altered Book Lover – T Stands for
That is a frosty looking bench! It is cold here with an expected wind chill of -34 F on Thursday. That was the day our family were driving here for Christmas. Now, they won’t drive here until after Christmas.
I am glad your kitties are better. Now, wishing for your postal strike to be over! How dare they do it at Christmas! Thank you for sharing your lovely art journal. I am having so much fun doing junk journals, not as artistic as yours.
Happy T Day and wishing you a Merry Christmas.
Sorry to read about the illnesses, including two kitties. I just checked Amazon and they have room heaters for as little as $30.00 (USD). Not sure how much cheaper that is in pounds. Seems one trip to the vet is about that. AND I have three electric heaters and they are very safe around cats. My two can testify to that.
I’ve only done the Advent and am SO far behind with the prompts. I blame it on my sewing machine. I really hope to see the embellishment videos after the first of the year, if they will be available. I love what you have done.
WOW, that frost is amazing. And beautiful.
Great to get a freebie magazine. I love those, too. Thanks for sharing your kitties, the photos of the frost, and your Cat Mum mug with us for T this Tuesday, dear Elle.
Sorry to hear about the frozen pipes and your heating situation. That sounds really cold!
Your art is beautiful and those books sound very interesting. Crazy that one is sold out.
Hope your kitties feel better soon.
Happy Tea Day and Merry Christmas,
Kate
Oh Elle, I was so sorry to hear of your struggles! It must have been so hard for you to stay warm in the cold weather that we had, so I’m so glad that the temperatures have improved and it’s warmer now. Those frosty photos look so amazing, yes the frost makes them look furry and so very pretty too ?. I hope your kitty cats are much better soon, I can’t believe that they are unwell again. It’s so funny that you talk about the strikes as your beautiful Christmas card arrived today, it’s so magical with the gorgeous background that you created and the white die cuts, thank you so much! Take care and sending you Happy T Day wishes! Hugs Jo x
Oh i agree with you they have a right to strike but like you i think they might be getting more than they bargained for.. Beautiful art Elle.. I’ll bet you could take some of those frosty pictures INSIDE your home! Those pics are lovely. I hope to do more art journaling this next year.. I’m thinking of starting several books with different themes instead of working to just complete one.. I think that might be easier.. Hope all those under the weather feel better soon! Merry Christmas! and Happy T day! Hugs! deb
Oh! Hope your wee ones get better soon and heat is back as well and stays! Best wishes! We had but one day with heating off and that was awful (didn´t help being sick).
To better / great times! xx
I’m so sorry that your kitties are unwell again – I really hope they will feel better very very soon and you don’t have to worry anymore. Your pages are so beautiful, I already saw them on Instagram, and I can only repeat that I would love to have just 10% of your creativity. Wonderful frost photos, but really cold. I can’t imagine to go to that cold you had without any heating. The mail on strike before Christmas? I can understand that they strike, but doing it around this time really hurts everyone and they don’t find friends and lots of sympathy with that. Couldn’t they strike after Christmas? I wish you a warm and peaceful Christmas, Elle.
Good morning, awesome art and lovely photos Great one of your kitties-hoping they feel better soon Merry Christmas hugs from the lake Kathy
I’m so sorry the sicknesses are making everybody suffer so. I hope everyone feels better soon. Your frost photos are gorgeous. I’d be tempted to frame one. Happy T Tuesday!
So sorry the kitties are feeling under the weather. Glad the weather has warmed up, relatively speaking. Your frost photos are amazing. The junk journals look like lots of fun, too. Happy T Day
