Short and sweet today as I am still not 100% and on top of that I seem to have picked up some kind of bug, so everything feels like so much effort to get done.  This is the first journal page I have managed to do this month!

Today’s Art . . .

Today’s art is this page that I made yesterday. For such a simple page, it took a long time, since I just don’t have the energy and everything seems to take so much more effort.  But anyway, it’s done and I’m reasonably happy with it, and I am glad to have used some of the flower wrapping that would otherwise have ended up in the bin.

This is an entry for AJJ where the theme is recycling – see link at bottom of post.  To start this page, I took the wrapping from the flowers I got for my birthday, see this post for the flowers, cut it up and glued it down on the page.  I don’t have process photos, too exhausted for that, but here is the wrappings.  I really liked the little “Shh… your flowers are sleeping” label they put on it so that was the inspiration for the page.

I did some journalling on the yellow background, with a yellow pen, so it’s there but not obvious, and a bit hidden at the same time.

If I had thought about it or if I had been thinking clearly, I probably would have coloured the background before glued the plastic wrapping paper down, that way, the clear parts would show the yellow through it, but I didn’t do that, so then I had to colour the background after painting the woman, and then colour over the top of the clear plastic to make it yellow too.

Bonus Journal Cover . . .

I have had this box hanging around since about 2018, and I kept it because it was so pretty, and I planned to use it to send a gift to my friend but now because of Brexit, custom charges, postage charges etc we are not exchanging gifts any more, and so I still had this nice box that I didn’t want to put in the recycling. The longer it say around the more likely it was that it was going to get damaged so I wanted to use it while it still looked relatively unharmed.

So I decided that I would repurpose it and cut the lid off to make a journal cover, and keep the bottom of the box for now, to see if I can use it for storage.  I cut it down to size and used it for the front cover and spine.  The back is an amazon box.  I used some washi tape to decorate the spine and glued my journal inside.

Let me know what you think in the comments.   As always, thanks for reading.

I am so sorry you are still not well, but I love how you recycled the plastic wrap. I think it looks perfect next to the lady you drew. I especially like the transparent part.

Your Art Journal turned out great. You certainly used the best part of the lid. You are SO good at recycling, I knew you would find ways to recycle elements of your art. Thank you so much for sharing both of these projects with us at Art Journal Journey using Bleubeard’s and my theme.

Sorry to hear you are still under the weather Elle.I hope you’re back on your feet very soon. This is nice recycling though.I really like the sticker and the paper from your flower bouquets. And the purple looks so pretty on the yellow. And nice use of the box top for a journal cover. It really is such a pretty box, and it works just as it is for a cover. Thanks so much for joining us at AJJ for Bleubeard’s and Elizabeth’s challenge. I’m glad you were able to squeeze in a post, but take care too please. hugs-Erika
