Hi Friends!

Horrible weather so I got to spend more time inside making art and also watching the Life Book Taster Sessions which started on Monday.  These little darlings were keeping me company.  The Dreamies cat treats were on special in the supermarket this week so I stocked up because it doesn’t pay to run out of cat treats in this house!  Miss Lily requests treats at 9am, 3pm, 6pm, and 9pm on the dot – and she doesn’t even need a clock!  Amazing isn’t it?  Mr G never requests them but manages to turn up just in time to get his too – he’s not going to say no!  They only get three at each time, and seem to be perfectly happy with that allowance, but she is absolutely not happy if she doesn’t get any, and will get quite persistent until I give in LOL. The yellow packets are cheese flavour and the orange packets are chicken flavour.  There are several other flavours but these two are their favourites so I don’t bother buying the others and it’s better to stick to things that I know won’t make them sick.  I have been saving some empty packets for this month’s challenge though…

Today’s Art . . .

Today’s art is another page for my theme on Art Journal Journey for this month – Books, Cats and Tea, which are three of my very favourite things.  Here comes another cat page using cat food packaging…

I started off by making a background out of old book pages,  Miss Lily was in her usual spot, and keeping an eye on my paintbrush for me. I have caught her trying to pick it up with a paw before, after she watched some Youtube videos of people painting and I’m quite convinced she’s a frustrated kitty artist.

I had saved ten empty packets of Dreamies and cut out the cats from the front of the packets and played with how to arrange them on my page.

Meanwhile my book page background was complete and dried and ready to go. I covered it with a layer of clear gesso.

I used a mix of Zesty Zing (yellow) and Tangerine Twist (orange) Paperartsy Fresco chalk paints on top of the book paper and then glued the cats on top.

It looked a little empty so I drew a winding black line around the cats like a piece of string or yarn that they might be playing with, and then cut the little cheese wedges from the packets and glued them on in places where the cats could reach them.  Then using a black marker I wrote the text in the middle of the page to finish it off.

I like how this turned out, it makes me smile to see all those cats looking so happy.  It’s amazing what you can create with some “free” food packaging and a bit of paint.

Let me know what you think in the comments.   As always, thanks for reading and Happy Journalling!

Wonderful journal page. I’m determined to visit before we get a new host tomorrow at AJJ. l love what you did with the Dreamies packets. Really clever and the colors are great, too. And that cheese was a great idea as well as the sentiment. This is a fun entry for your theme, Elle.

That was smart to save those cat treats. The kitties on the bags make perfect art fodder for this month’s challenge. I like how you used the paper pieces in the background and how your spread looks. And that photo of the kitties waiting for their treats is perfect to include in this post. It’s funny how animals can become as predictable as we people often are. I hope your week is going well.
