Hi Friends!

It’s another wild weather day today but I am still going to yoga class!  I mentioned to Erika in a comment on her beekeeper page today, about this woman who rescued a bumblebee with one wing.  She posts on instagram but I also found this video on youtube that anyone can watch without needing an IG account:

Today’s Art . . .

Today’s art is a journal page Neet’s theme this month on Art Journal Journey – In Gear.

This one has lots of plastic gears and cogs that were cut from old videotape boxes.

This journal page started off as… a journal page that I made in 2020.  I remember it was for a “retro” challenge and so the colours I used were brown, pink and yellow {shudder}. Those stamped doilies are all heat embossed in brown too!  Confession:  I never really liked it and so it never ended up being bound into a journal, it ended up in a box!  Here’s what it looked like originally so you can compare it to how it looks now:

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have a lot of artwork stored in boxes and last month I decided to pull some out and reuse/repurpose them.  At least if they live in my journal I will see them more often and they will be more accessible.  To “fix” this page, I took the trio of professors off and then gave the page a glaze with some blue acrylic ink, which turned it mostly green and some of the pink squares a bit purple.

These black cogs and gears are cut from old videotape boxes.  You can see above that one of them says VHS and I left them that way round so I could see the text rather than turn them to the plain black side as they looked more interesting.   I’ve been having a clear out and had recently got rid of some old videotapes after transferring them to DVD.  I realised what a lot of cardboard there was in these boxes and also that a few of them were plastic, rather than cardboard boxes.

I used my Big Shot and a tag die to cut out – wait for it – 32 tags!  So I’ll be OK for tag bases for a while haha.  But the thinlits dies would not cut through the plastic boxes so I used a Bigz die to cut them into cogs and gears shapes instead.

Only one Professor made it back onto the journal page this time – actually I think another reason why I never bound the page in a journal was because of the three Professors, as one of them was right in the middle and so it would have been awkward to fold the page flat with him in the middle.

I used the same sentiment sticker from the original page, just peeled it off and then glued it back on after I had glazed the page.

It’s still not my favourite but I do like it much better than the original colour scheme!

Let me know what you think in the comments.   As always, thanks for reading and Happy Journalling!

I really love your updated page, yes, a fold in the middle of a face wouldn’t have been good! What a great idea to use the video boxes. I often use attractive food boxes to make diecuts! Thanks so much for sharing at AJJ once more, hugs Chrisx

‘I really like how you’re not only recycling pages, but also how you made use of VHS boxes that would otherwise be thrown out. The tags will be really useful. And those are cool gears too. I really like the new page; and I agree, your older page isn’t as exciting as the new one. And also, thanks for sharing the bee video. That is one lucky bee. What a great life it has since it can’t fly and rejoin its colony. Thanks for sharing this page for Neet’s challenge at AJJ. Have a great weekend. Hugs-Erika

How good is that to repurpose your old video boxes and the lettering that remains on the gears looks part of it all. Definitely prefer the updated version of your page, I hope you are happier with it now. It’s a great page for my them at AJJ with all those gears and that guy ids just perfect.
