Hi Friends and Happy Solstice!
Short and sweet…it’s cold and dark and I am going to light the fire and make it bright inside. Tonight is also the finale of Game of Wool, so I am really hoping Holger wins, although there is also a girl from Ayrshire in the final so I hope she does well too. (There were two people from Ayrshire and the show is also filmed there.) Has anyone seen it? It’s a UK show, with a similar format to the Great British Sewing Bee and the Great British Bake-off except now they are applying the format to knitters! I wasn’t really going to watch it since episode one caused such a furore over Fairisle and knitting communities are up in arms lol, plus I do mostly crochet BUT at least half of the challenges on the show are CROCHET challenges (even though they are referring to the contestants as “knitters”). It’s hosted by Tom Daley (Olympic medallist and World Champion diver) who is also a big knitter.
Today’s Art . . .

Today’s art is a page to celebrate the Winter Solstice which officially happened at 15:03 today, the time of this post. I am so relieved because although this is officially the longest night, it means that from now on we can look forward to longer days and more daylight! These last few months have felt so cold and dark and it has definitely had a negative affect on my health and wellbeing – even with the SAD lights on! This is, of course, also a page for Sharon’s lovely Winter theme on AJJ
Here’s a close up of the top of the page. This was made very quickly today as I really wanted a Solstice page, so I grabbed a lot of bits and pieces that were lying around on my desk, and threw it together. The image in the window is of Callanish standing stones in the Hebrides and came from a magazine I picked up when I was there some years ago.
The sheep, tree, deer etc were all cutouts from some old Christmas cards, that I found when tidying up. I used them a couple of years ago on some journal pages and they are STILL lying around in a pile on the floor! I really need a bigger room!!! (or, you know, less stuff!)
Care December is already finished and I have not started it (yet) but I was thinking about it when I created this page, and since their theme this year is the colour green, I thought I might as well concentrate on that colour, just on the off chance that I manage to get anything else done about Care December this year.
That’s it for me today. At least one, but maybe two of my cats are vomiting today. I don’t know why. They are just very vomity cats for some reason but I was hoping they would cut me some slack and not do it over Christmas. *sigh*
Let me know what you think in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!

Art Journal Journey – Winter

Such a touching, beautiful winter journal page!!
Get well soon to your cats!
hugs Elke
That knitting show sounds fantastic, and I want to know what the issue is over the Fair isle. The number of colors per row perhaps…..I haven’t seen it advertised here in the US, but maybe it’s coming. And that is a truly lovely winter solstice page. I love the scene you collaged. It is perfect for Sharon’s challenge. Thank you for joining us. And today the days will start getting longer which will be nice because it’s been sooo dark in my area too. And happy Nollaig Cridheil. or happy Yule or Happy Christmas…which ever is your choice. Hugs-Erika
Hi Elle!
I’ve never heard of “Game of Wool!” but I’ve watched the “Great British Bake-off” with my daughter and enjoyed it. I hope Holger won, just like you hoped!
Oh my gosh, your art journal page is incredible! The magazine photograph is so beautiful and the addition of the sheep, deer, and tree made it all the more stunning. (I guess it’s good not to clean up your desk right away, right? LOL) And I love that you recycled the old cards.
Here in the US, we just had the shortest day of the year, and I can’t wait for the days to get longer! Like you, I need more light in my life!
Thanks so much for joining the Winter theme at AJJ again, Elle!
Hugs and Happy Holidays,
Sharon
