I immediately wanted this little seahorse set as soon as I saw it released. I ordered it direct from Rubber Dance and it arrived in only two days!
The Finished Card
I created the background with the new Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide Spray – yes this is one colour! Then I stamped the seahorses first in Versafine Black ink and then used some other Rubber Dance stamps to make the underwater plants – none of them are intended as underwater plants lol but I thought they would look good. I used Weeds, Crazy Flowers 2 and a sentiment stamp called Something Wonderful.
Seahorses to me, always look like they are flying through the sea with their little wings, so it’s the first thing I thought of when I saw this challenge – Things with Wings.
This is not the best photo but I haven’t been well and haven’t been up to lots of photo editing on the computer. Once I feel better I will add some better photos.
A Word about Distress Oxide Spray – Frayed Burlap
I just wanted to make a note about this Frayed Burlap colour because it was not on my list of Oxide sprays to buy, until, that is, I watched Tim Holtz demo the 12 new colours on Facebook Live, and saw what this colour can do and the way it separates out into orange and turquoise to create these rusty patina effects. I’m guessing it’s the composition of the colour and how it is made up – possibly with blue and orange – and somehow the oxidising effect causes them to separate into separate colours again? Anyway, had it not been for that FB Live, I would not have purchased that colour and would not now be enjoying creating a bunch of rusty, verdigris oxidised backgrounds!
I really like how this card turned out and that I was able to create an underwater scene using plant stamps that were not intended as underwater plants. I kept to the same colour palette as the Frayed Burlap background so it was all blue/greens and oranges and I really enjoyed colouring in all the elements using my coloured pencils. I used very little on this card really, just one ink for the background – but it looks like more! – a few stamp sets, coloured pencils, and just because I can’t leave anything alone, I added extras with some paint markers, but it’s really quite a low maintenance card.
