Hi everyone, hope you are having a good week. I have had a very busy week/couple of weeks and I really felt like I wasn’t going to be able to find the time to create anything! A few weeks ago, I got an email about a free week-long art retreat held by Laly Mille (love her) and so I signed up for it, and then got really busy and promptly forgot all about it! There were three workshops held during the week (21-26th Oct) one for mood boards, one for mini abstract landscapes and one for painting a full sized canvas. On Sunday I was feeling so tired but after watching the workshops I decided to at least try to get something done. So I started with a mood board but inside my art journal, so it was more like a scrapbook of ideas.
I grabbed everything that was lying around on my desk and look how autumnal it looks! That was a real surprise just how much orange and brown was on my desk, just from leftovers and random bits and pieces like the coffee packaging and the chocolate wrapper haha.
Since I was then on a roll, easy once you actually get started, I started to gather more of the stuff from my desk to make collage for the mini abstract series.
Then I cut my watercolour paper down to a small size and taped it down on the back of a photo frame – no fancy equipment here lol.
I’m using some Clairfontaine paper that measures 12.5 x 9.5 inches so I worked out that I could get four x 4.75 x 4.75 inch squares from one sheet! I’m afraid at this point, I got a bit lost in the moment and forgot what I was supposed to be doing and just did my own thing, and look I managed to cover everything in collage! What a surprise eh? lol
Anyway, after dinner when everything was dry, I got stuck in to adding paints and inks and all kinds of colour and before long my little mini series looked like this:
Yes that’s right, not a landscape in sight lol. I really like them though, it was really surprising how these little mini paintings just came out of nothing, and yes there is a big brown square in the middle of each one but the art wants what the art wants and they were crying out for those brown squares. I was actually thinking that they could make some nice notecards or something, or of course some mini framed paintings like the ones I did for my friends back in August!
I never got time to do the big canvas painting but hopefully when I am less busy I might get a chance to start it. At the moment all three workshops are available to watch for free but I think they will be switched off soon. It is basically a promotion for some other classes and to celebrate her ten year anniversary of being an artist.
Hope you enjoyed the making of these little art pieces which are all made from discarded materials and leftover bits and pieces. Let me know in the comments what you think 🙂
