Winning Lines From Not So Winning Numbers Art Journal Page

I’m back with my second post for today and this time it’s to share this art journal page inspired by two October challenges.  All the challenge info is at the end of the post.

So I was tidying up today and putting stuff in the recycling and that’s when I got my idea!  Here are some lottery tickets that were sadly not winning tickets, as I looked at them, two things crossed my mind – 1. all the numbers, and 2. each set of numbers is referred to as “a line” so when you are checking your tickets on the National Lottery website, they give you the option to enter multiple “lines” for each game, if you happen to have more than one ticket. Also if you look at the tickets themselves, there are lines all over them.  So numbers and lines – I had my idea for the two challenges that I really wanted to make something for before the end of the month.

So I thought to myself, let’s make something pretty out of something useless, and I started pasting down the tickets into my journal.  This is the small one that I made so the pages are approximately A5 in size, making the spread approx A4 size. While I was doing this, I double checked none of them were for tonight’s lottery!  Imagine if my winning ticket was collaged into an art journal, bet they’d never had that happen before haha.

As my entire background was pink, I thought I would add some contrast with some browns, and some of them even have numbers on them!

Then I pulled out all of these pink paints and ended up only using one of them – the small one there on the right – Pearl magenta.  I don’t know what I was thinking as it’s such a tiny book, so I still need to adapt to using something so small, and don’t need to go mad with paint!

I got quite carried away adding lots of drippy paint and ink and a few metallic gold splatters, before adding some extra bits including the bird and more numbers in the form of book chapter titles and page numbers, and a few of the serial numbers and the price from the £3 scratchcard.  I had also used some pink Neocolours and some alcohol inks and other random papers still lying on my desk from previous projects.

The final step was to add more numbers using a stamp set with very ornate numbers, and stamping them using brown Stazon ink.

So that’s my page, made from not so lucky lottery tickets – at least they have been useful in the end lol. One thing I forgot about was that the paper these tickets are made from is really susceptible to heat and very quickly turns black if you happen to blast it with a hairdryer like I did, so there are a few blackened patches dotted around the page, but that all adds to the character, don’t you think? CHALLENGES

OK here are the challenges I am entering:-

A Vintage Journey – Numbers –  numbers on the lottery tickets, both the chosen numbers and the serial numbers and bar codes on the tickets, and the word “numbers”, chapter headings, book page numbers, numbers on scrapbook papers, and even a calendar from an amazon book, and finally stamped numbers.
Art Journal Journey – Hold the Line – this is my third entry for this month’s theme and I wanted to make something with a different kind of “line” so it was just luck that I hit on the lottery ticket lines as my idea, but also on the lottery tickets there are two other kind of lines – the thick bar code lines along the bottom of each ticket (see them along the bottom of the page) and the dotted lines that separate the numbers from the rules..
