Hi festive friends! I don’t know about you but I think we need all the good wishes we can get right now so I say – Cheers to the New Year – and hope that it is SO much better than this year!
It’s time for a new Mini Challenge over on More Than Words Challenge Blog and this card is my DT inspiration for this month. I have to admit that I struggled a little bit when I saw what the challenge word was as “cheers” is not a word that makes it into my vocabulary easily. I know that many people use it all the time, and a lot of people use it to sign off in emails etc, but it’s not really a word that I use. So how to use a word that you don’t really like and make something that you hopefully will like? Yes that was my dilemma lol, but then I remembered an older die set I had from Concord & 9th which was one of their Christmas/seasonal sets from a couple of years back. I dug it out of the stash and it has this scripty Cheers word and the small to the new year banner that goes with it – perfect! I had something to work with now! As for the rest of the card, I already had an image in my mind of how I wanted that to looks, so I got busy making it happen.
I cut out all the bits and pieces using glitter card stock and metallic card stock. Here’s a tip: if you don’t have the exact colour you want in glitter card, but you do have something light like white or silver, just colour it in with alcohol markers. I *do* have green glitter card but not the shade I was after, so I used some markers to colour in some of the silver card. Now that you know this trick, you might decide to only buy white or silver glitter card from now on and make your own custom coloured card stock every time! I also found this pad of A5 watercolour paper so I decided to use it and make a large card. (approx 2x the size of US A2 cards)
I had some watercolours premixed on a palette (because I tend to use them a lot) so that’s what I used, although most of the purple is covered up in the end.
I could watch this paint move about all day lol. Doesn’t that look amazing while it’s still wet?
Here it is dry and ready to go – to make it more festive I added a lot of gold splatters to the background.
I played around with the placement of all my little bits – I really wanted to use the bow and some of the banner streamer bits.
I am also entering this card in the following Challenges
A Vintage Journey – December Challenge – A Merry Little Christmas/Goodbye – I still really can’t believe that the blog is closing down. I got quite despondent when I went there to find out what this month’s theme was and read that instead. I have only been entering the challenges for the last two years but probably like a lot of people, I used to think my work wasn’t “challenge worthy” so I used to look at the challenges but not enter. Then last year I decided to just enter everything lol, but soon narrowed it down to a few specific challenges that I really love and look forward to, this being one of them. I am always so inspired and amazed at what the team create and yes I still think that I am not good enough, even after being Pinworthy several times, but I love the challenge so much. I’m sad when I have no time to enter like last month. I was so looking forward to creating little sets for the trios, pairs challenge and disappointed when RL got in the way of that (re building an ecommerce website for a friend etc). If there was any way of keeping it open and making social media work to its advantage I would be totally there and willing to help out to keep it going, but it seems that this is the end, and it is a sad ending to a pretty miserable year 🙁
Country View Challenges – December Challenge – Anything Christmas – Another lovely challenge blog that I love to visit and support by entering their challenges. (Please don’t close down!) I am also a customer of the shop and try to support small businesses. The Anything Christmas challenge is an easy one to enter at this time of year so that takes the pressure off as a lot of people are probably making Christmas cards anyway so why not enter them in a challenge! You might have the chance of winning the random prize but I always feel that much more than any physical prize that might be on offer, the most valuable prize is the feedback you receive on what you’ve created and, if you are lucky to be selected as one of the Top 3, then the acknowledgement that you did good work and someone liked it. Sometimes I think we’ve forgotten why we make things (some people anyway) and the motivation seems to be more about prizes and less about the process, but that’s a topic for another day 🙂 I guess this year, has made me put a lot of things in perspective and re-evaluate everything!
