So this was supposed to be a very quick 5 min page as part of Kasia’s Advent Calendar, the whole idea being that you do something quick and simple and enjoy the process without feeling like you even have to finish a page, but you still get some beneficial journaling done.  The prompt for Day 4 was about Art Freedom and there were some links to virtual art galleries since a lot of them are shut etc.  I had no idea what I was going to do for this page but then started thinking about times when I have visited art galleries and then I started thinking about Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh.  This is one of my favourite paintings but also I currently have a notebook in my amazon basket that has this very image on it as I was considering giving it to someone as a Xmas gift.  So I guess it was on my mind and so this happened…

It was definitely not 5 mins but I really really enjoyed the process of making it, emphasis on the art and less on the journaling since I couldn’t bring myself to write on it after it was finished.  Here’s a look at how it came together.  I had this very messy, mostly blue page that I had created by wiping my leftover paint on, so I went around the edges with some black to darken it up a little.

Then I started to roughly mark out where all the elements needed to go.

Oh how I wish I hadn’t started this haha, It really wasn’t looking good.

So I painted over most of what I didn’t like with black paint.

But then I started to feel better about it when I added the yellow!

At this point I had to leave it for the night, but in the morning I took another look at the real painting… um…. ok still got quite a way to go haha

As I was waiting for amazon deliveries, I grabbed my paint pens and moved downstairs so I could hear anyone knocking on the door, and got to work.

Layers and layers and layers later…
I think it needs more white in the sky and slightly different blue but I have limited supplies so I used what I had available.

I like how it turned out in the end.  I might even try it again with different paint and see what happens.  Day 4 Art is Freedom (freedom to spend much longer than 5 mins doing this and it was very therapeutic).

Today is Day 14 of the Advent Calendar and the official end, though I am still working through my pages as I seem to struggle only spending a few mins on a page.  I get totally absorbed in what I am doing and then forget to stop lol.  I will be back with a post with all the pages when they are done.  Meanwhile, I hope you are staying safe and warm and enjoy celebrating whatever you are celebrating.  I will be back soon with another project.  Let me know what you think in the comments and as always, thanks for reading!
