Things have been a little slow here on the cardmaking front, due to illness and hospital visits etc, and that stuff really knocks all the creativity out of you after a while, so I stepped away from the craft room for a while till I located my mojo again or more like it, I needed some cards ASAP. March, April and May are busy months for our family, so here’s one that I made for my BIL, featuring an older stamp set from Concord & 9th. The Happy Words stamp set is from 2016, the October release to be exact, but is still available. I love how versatile it is and how you can stamp up the Happy Birthday song on a card. I first saw this idea on the Concord & 9th website, and then Jennifer McGuire made a video demonstrating how she used it to make multiple cards. The card that JM made was the standard A2 American size so she used the Perfectly Penned alpha stamp set along with it, to stamp the individual names on her cards, but for me, I like to make bigger cards, so that stamp set was too small for my needs, and I used the Sophisticated Script and Sophisticated Upper stamp sets on mine as they are bigger letters.
For my card, I basically used one piece of Neenah solar white cardstock and folded it in half, making the card 8.5 inches tall by 5.5 inches wide (close to an A5 UK size). Due to the size of my card, I had to plan out the spacing of the Happy Birthday song so that it was evenly spaced and looked right.
Then I taped the stamps onto some acetate and stuck it on to the stamping platform and got to stamping – excuse the mess of washi tape all over my stamping platform but you can tell it’s well used! To avoid adjusting the stamps as much as possible, I stamped the Happy Birthday to You phrase first, all three times, before swapping out the “to you” for the “dear” for the third line. I’m using some Gina K ink cubes for this and some of my favourite colours – Turquoise Sea, Key Lime, Powder Blue and Blue Raspberry.
I stamped the inside with the Happy Birthday and Enjoy it All from the Enjoy it all stamp set from Concord and 9th in the Gina K Blue Raspberry ink.
I also made a matching envelope with some 12 inch paper I have had forever, and it comes in really handy for making these big envelopes for these bigger size cards with the Envelope Punch.
So there we have it, the finished article. On the whole I am happy with it but I did have to rush a little bit and after practicing the name three times on some scrap card, so I would get the spacing right, I managed to stamp it slightly off-centre on the actual card! Doh! I added a few more of the gold stars around the name in the hope that it would look like a design feature as there was no time to redo the card lol.
And I made carrot cake cupcakes – vegan of course and very delicious!
