Wish Dream Create Magic Birthday Card – Mixed Media Background and Diecut Letters

Hey crafty friends! I have a very different looking birthday card this time.  August is birthday season around here and I am non-stop making for them all lol.  Unfortunately this is a belated card so I didn’t want to put a big “Happy Birthday” on the front for two reasons – 1. it’s late and 2. I was thinking that she might want to keep it on display for inspiration beyond the birthday time.

So this card will have a gift to match, using the same basic supplies and colours (coming soon) and using colours that she likes.  This Cosmos paper from Stamperia also has “August” printed on it – see top left under the butterfly so it’s perfect to use for this card and I wanted to make sure I used that part of the paper.

The Finished Card

This is another easel style card, using Stamperia papers (Cosmos) and featuring a mixed media background and some diecut letters using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Letterboard Bigz Alphabet Die, and some stencilled stars using a Crafter’s Workshop stencil and Finnabair Icing Paste.

Construction

I painted a piece of 5.5 x 5.5 card with blue liquid acrylic paint around the edges and distressed the edges with black soot.  Then I took a piece of the Cosmos paper, making sure to choose the piece with the August month on it.  Painted this paper with the same liquid acrylics, and then stamped the butterflies and small sentiments on it with black soot archival ink.  I edged it in black soot archival ink, and then added some random gold and white splatters on it. Then using a Crafter’s Workshop stencil, i used some Finnabair Icing Paste in gold, to stencil on some randomly placed stars.  Once that was all dry, I glued the panel on to it. I then made a matching journal card sized piece for the inside and painted it too, adding another piece of Cosmos paper to it and painting it to match, and  distressing all the edges with black soot.  Then I took the easel card base I had made, and glued the front and inside pieces to it, making sure all the edges matched and the card could stand up

Decoration

It was almost finished except to add some sentiment or words to the front.  I decided to use the Letterboard alphabet die to create the words WISH DREAM CREATE for the front of the card, and MAGIC for the inside, so that when the card is displayed the sentiment would read WISH, DREAM, CREATE MAGIC.

Mail Art?  Envelope Decoration

I got a little excited about stamping “mail art” on the envelope, even Lily was impressed!

Final Thoughts

I really like how this card turned out, and all the materials I used.  Sometimes a birthday card doesn’t have to say “Happy Birthday” on the card, and I like making cards this way.  Here’s a look at the Treasure Box that I made to go with this card, using the same papers and colour scheme.
