Today I am sharing another page with you from my small handmade art journal. I’m really enjoying using it and enjoying the smaller size and I would really like to have it filled by the end of the year!
So this art journal page was made as my DT inspiration project for the November challenge over on More Than Words Challenge Blog. This time the theme was the word SEASON and to add LEAVES to your project. My background is a gel printed one that I had in my stash from last year. It has very fiery autumnal colours and has leaf prints in the monoprinted background. I thought it would make a nice background to the leaves that I saved and dried from my Japanese Maple in the garden. I also pulled out these other possible backgrounds – two Distress backgrounds in the front and another monoprinted background at the back – that one has actual leaf prints on several layers of monoprinting. But none of them were calling to me like that orange one.
I used a quote from one of my all time favourite books – Anne of Green Gables – and copied it out in my bestest oldy worldy script handwriting. It’s terrible really and I had several attempts at it, this being the best one! Hah – you should have seen the others!
This stamp is an older retired one from Concord & 9th, hence the American spelling of “Favorite” but I like the quote and it was just what I needed for the SEASON word challenge. There are no process photos of this one, just a few close ups as most of the process, was working with my Maple leaves and getting them preserved on my page using gel medium.
This very small text stamp that I have running around the page, is also from a Concord & 9th set – they have released a lot of autumn/fall sets that I loved but are all retired now. The leaves in the corner are from my blueberry bushes and have turned from green to yellow and red and look so pretty on the bush, and hopefully on my page!
I used a small leaf stamp and a very small heart stamp and brown Stazon ink to fill in the rest of my background between the real leaves. You can also see the metallic gold splatter across the background too.

I left the page out to dry so all that gel medium wouldn’t get stuck to the wrong things and then I glued it into my small journal, next to its other seasonal friends 🙂
