Hi Friends!
Hope you are all doing well. I’m still watching and mostly, enjoying, the videos from the Mixed Media Expo run by Tamara Laporte. Here’s a link to the schedule where you can watch the daily videos available from 1-14 May 2025. Today I am sharing another journal page created in the book I made from the same Day 2 lesson from Denise Love.
Today’s art . . .
MM EXPO Day 2 – Denise Love
As I mentioned in my last post, this lesson was all about painting a large sheet of watercolour paper on both sides, cutting it up and making it into a concertina book. Yesterday I made a page in the neutral book on the left, today I am working in the bright pink book on the right. The lesson was only to create the books, what you do with them afterwards is up to you.
Here are two of the A3 size papers that I used for one of the books – this is the more more colourful version!
The back side looks like this:
Instead of stenciling like with the first book, I did stamping this time using some Gwen Lafleur stamps from Paperartsy.
Now it was time to do some work in this second book. There is a lot going on in this background so I kept it simple and just used a Tim Holtz silhouette stamp set with these little birds.
With all these little black birds, I am linking up with Neet’s theme of It Must Have Wings. After stamping the birds I didn’t know what else to do with it, but I was actually telling myself this morning to be more positive and think happy thoughts, and this stamp set actually has a “happy thoughts” sentiment, so that was perfect and I went about stamping it all over the page. I smudged part of the stamping in that orange band so I decided to cover it up with another bird! Problem solved!
Here’s a look at the whole two page spread…
I shared this photo in my last post, but we are having another sunny morning, so the kitty girl is in the same spot catching some rays. 🙂
Let me know what you think in the comments below. As always, thanks for reading and Happy journalling!Ingredients

Art Journal Journey – It Must Have Wings
Dear Elle,
Your journal pages are absolutely wonderful — full of energy, color, and joy! I love how you let the vibrant background shine while adding those charming little black birds. The “happy thoughts” sentiment is such a perfect touch, especially when we all need those gentle reminders.
And your sunny kitty made me smile — our cat also loves to stretch out in the warm sunbeams that fall across our living room. There’s just something so peaceful about that little ritual, isn’t there?
Thanks for sharing your creativity and sunshine with us!
Warm wishes from Austria,
Traude

Wow Elle, these are so pretty. I am impressed with your art always.
Nice colours, gorgeous patterns
Much?love
What a happy accident Elle.. I would not have known had you not mentioned it and I love the blackbirds who are enjoying the sunshine after the rain with your lovely rainbow pages. It certainly is a happy page and so deserves to have lots of happy thoughts written all over it.
Thanks again for joining in with my theme at Art Journal Journey Elle.
Lovely to see Miss Lily still enjoying the sunshine.
Hugs, Neet xx
I love both of your pages today Elle. I’ve had my eye on those Gwen LaFleur stamps so it was great to see them in use. I actually could pick them right out from your page. And ooo to all those colors and the rainbows that are beautiful. I like how you added the text on the half rings. And of course the birds work perfect for Neet’s challenge. Thanks for joining in. And have a super weekend ahead. hugs-Erika
