One of my favourite things to do is to make backgrounds. I don’t have any plan for them, I just like messing about with the materials and seeing how they turn out, and knowing that they will come in handy at some point. So, here are a bunch of them that I made last year and stashed away. In between hospital visits this week, I decided to pull them out and just play around with them as I really couldn’t focus on anything in serious.
These are all a bit of a mixture, different paper types, and different mediums including Distress Oxides, Dylusions spray inks, Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks, treated in different ways. The one that caught my eye was this one in the middle.
I liked the colour combination and how all the colour is around the edges leaving an opening in the middle like a window or a peek-through. I pulled out an older die set from Concord and 9th, called By Your Side, because I like the little birds sitting on the branch and could see it working like they were observing from their secret location between the branches of the tree and foliage. I also used the Just Because dies to cut out some leaves and ferns from some of the other backgrounds in the pile.
I love how their little wings are cut out! You can also use this die on card fronts and they look really sweet and cute. There is a video here if you are curious to see how that works – it’s really very clever. But here I just cut them out completely and glued them on to this background. Then I started arranging the foliage pieces until I got them where I wanted them.
And that’s all I have time for today as I need to get back to the hospital but I really enjoying recharging my batteries with this project – really a WIP project! – which will probably end up in my art journal.
Here’s what was used FYI
