This challenge has been on my to-do list for this month, and I have been thinking about it for a couple of weeks, waiting for inspiration to hit me – it finally did yesterday and I finished it today! Unlike the previous challenge where I instantly had an idea, this one took a while to take shape. So here is my entry for the Altenew Sketch Scrapbook Challenge #16 #AltenewChallenge.
Inspiration
Here is the sketch for challenge #16 and the colours. I’m not a fan of orange but it is now officially “fall” and I am a fan of that, and all those orangey changing leaf colours so I really don’t know why I like those and not regular orange. So because of the season I decided to make something seasonal.
Overview of my project and process
I have a few “autumnal” leaf stamps and dies from other companies, but none from Altenew and I did want to use some of my Altenew stamps and dies in this layout, so in the end I decided to use the leaf cluster from the Build-a Flower Rose dies. This might seem a bit weird but I was sure it would work if it was coloured correctly. I took a sheet of watercolour paper and die cut as many of these leaves out of it as possible, and I set aside the negative part to use later.
I used my Altenew watercolour pan set to paint all of the die cut leaves – as I was going to use them in a few projects, I divided them up and painted groups of them in different colours. The leaves for this layout were painted with Emerald watercolour paint. I also took some paper flowers and painted them with Autumn Blaze watercolour and set everything aside to dry while I worked on other elements.
I die cut the Altenew Fine Frames cover die in white cardstock, then covered it with a combination of Teal Cave and Espresso ink to give it a distressed look. I used the Creative Edges Notebook Edge die on the wood plant pattern paper from the New Day Card Kit to use as another layer under my photo.
Meanwhile, I used my negative die cut as a stencil and sponged on some Gina K Wild Dandelion ink to cover my page. Once the watercoloured leaves were all dry, I went over them with a dark green Polychromos pencil to add highlights and leaf veins. I also used turquoise liquid acrylics to add some paint splatters to the background and when it was dry, it was time to start assembling my project.
The notebook edged plank paper went on the bottom with the frame and photo on top. I added leaf clusters in three places as per the sketch, with the pale orange flowers layered up in each cluster. I added black nuvo drops to each flower centre and a few orange and rhubarb nuvo drops to the layout, finished with some auburn pearl drops on the frame.
Once everything was glued in place, it was time for the stamping. I used the Sweet Friend stamp set to stamp out the large and small XOXO, sweet friend, best of companions. I used the Delicate Flower Bed stamp set to stamp out hey gorgeous, and miss your pretty face sentiments. Then I distressed the edge of the layout and edged it with Distress Ground Espresso Archival and the project was complete!
