Super Cool Christmas – Mixed Media Christmas Card Using No Christmas Stamps!

Yes ’tis the season for Christmas cards and so I have another one for you today but this one is a little bit different since I used NO Christmas stamps on it at all!  In fact I used no Christmas anything on it as the die I used for the CHRISTMAS word is just an alphabet die so you can cut out letters to spell any word you want, it’s not a die that cuts the word “Christmas”.  So why did I do this?  Well, I wanted to enter the Rubber Dance December inspiration Challenge, because I love their stamps and I love a challenge and I loved the inspiration board and colours for this month, and it didn’t have to be a Christmas card but I wanted to give myself an extra challenge to make a Christmas card using no Christmas stamps, so that’s what I did.

It started with this background that I found in my stash.  It was one piece of A4 paper and I have held on to it for ages because I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it but it seemed perfectly for this challenge, so I cut it in half and ended up using the piece on the left because the other piece tore when I tried to cut it with the paper trimmer 🙁 totally my fault as it is not card stock, it’s just a piece of very thin sketch paper and I wasn’t thinking as I was cutting card stock at the same time and just put it in the trimmer! So them I trimmed it down to 8 x 5 inches so I could use one piece of US sized card stock folded in half, and that would leave a nice border around the edges.

I used Wow white embossing powder to stamp these starfish and little shells and then I stamped others using only the embossing ink, and no powder, which gives a more tone on tone effect.

I used Versafine Clair ink in Bahama Blue to stamp out BEAUTIFUL, AWESOME, FABULOUS, SUPER COOL, from the Beautiful Words stamp set on to some white card that I had painted with some light blue ink in a watercolour effect, then I distressed the edges and edged them with a Bahama Blue Memento Marker.

Then I cut out the letters to spell CHRISTMAS using Tim Holtz Society alphabet dies and some of the same light blue painted card, and edged those also with the marker.

I finished off the card with some white gloss Nuvo Drops and some Star Dust Stickles.  I really love how this card turned out and I love the little Star(fish), I love thinking about things in ways other than what was intended (way out of the box!).   I think it looks very Christmassy even though no Christmas products were used in the making of this card lol.  I’m not sure the photos have captured the gorgeous blue of this card as the weather here today was appalling and I adjusted the camera settings accordingly but still the quality of daylight was very poor.  If things brighten up soon, I will take more photos.
