Hi Friends!

Today I have another card to share.  This time it celebrates my love of Kraft card and crafting generally.

Inspiration

I took my inspiration from an Altenew class called Beyond Basic Backgrounds, which is one of their Level 2 classes.  Each lesson features a different technique to use to create backgrounds that are beyond basic!  I was inspired by the lesson about stamping your own pattern background and decided to do that for my card.

Overview of my card process

I guess it would have been easier or more expected to use a shape to create the background eg a hearts, flowers, circles etc, but I decided I wanted to use words for my background and so I chose this stamp from the Crafty Life stamp set, and because I was thinking about craft, and handmade, it made sense for the colour scheme to be Kraft coloured, so I used the Sand Dunes ink for my stamping as it is very much like a Kraft colour.

In order to achieve accurate pattern placement, it is necessary to get a little mathematical an draw some lines and measurements on the card.  Measure the size of the stamp, mark out the placement on the card and so on.  I also used my Stamp Platform to do most of the stamping without having to move the stamp.  All those little bits of green washi tape helped me position the card in the right place each time!

After I finished the main stamping with the CRAFTERS GONNA CRAFT stamp, I used the smaller #craftylife stamp on an acrylic block to quickly stamp vertically between the larger stamps and finish off my pattern.

For my sentiment I die cut HUGS from some Kraft cardstock using the Bold Alphabet set (my fav), but I felt like it could do with more zhoozhing up, so I decided to cut the card down to 6 x 6 and use the cut off piece to make a tag!

I cut the leftover “pattern paper” into a tag shape and adhered the HUGS on top, then I cut a slightly bigger tag out of Kraft card and glued it all together, adding some Hessian twine tied in a bow. I did edge everything with Vintage Photo Distress Archival, including the card itself and it was done!

A crafty card for a crafty friend!

Thoughts

I really enjoyed stamping the pattern for this card, and I love the Kraft colours with the white background. It was a good class to make you think of alternate ways of creating backgrounds other than the obvious ones.

I hope you enjoyed reading about this card and that you find inspiration from it.
