Hello again and happy Saturday! I had a creative day today catching up with some course lessons and I have one of them to share now. One of the courses I am doing this year is Book of Days which is a year long art journaling “deep dive” by Effy Wild. This lesson is actually Sarah Trumpp’s, one of the first ones from January but I am a bit behind and playing catch-up so here we go…
This brain (half brain) image was provided in the lesson. I can’t find a public image showing the finished result of the lesson like I did with the other one but the idea of the lesson was that it was you and what you were thinking, using magazine images of people etc. BTW you can see in this image that I painted the thought bubbles with silver acrylic ink that I had leftover from another project, but it hardly shows at the end.
I guess my brain must always be thinking about cats, because as soon as I saw what was written in the top thought bubble, off I went in the general direction of kitties! Here’s some of the contents of my recycling bin (lol) including part of the cat food wrapper that Miss P gets (I’ve cut the rest of the label off but it’s called Fat Cat Slim – need I say more?) Admittedly in that photo the kitty is looking at that brain like it’s dinner haha.
The teacher was working in an old book. I didn’t have one I wanted to work in as I had made my own journal for this course, so I made a book background out of these book paper squares I had leftover from a project last year. This is not part of the class, just something I did on my own.
Now I had the page ready to go I could get started.
Just so as I don’t forget what I used on this page, I found these old liquid watercolours that I think I bought in a clearance sale a couple of years back. Totally forgot all about them until I rearranged a bunch of things in my room and wondered what these tiny bottles were lol. I only have five of them but I managed to make it work.
Here’s a closer look a the thought bubble that sent me off in a feline direction.
Here’s the finished page (A4 size). It was fairly quick as I didn’t use magazines and had less work, so I did some journalling in the background instead and altered the cat food kitty to give her longer whiskers etc.
And look there is even a tiny bit of silver foil on the collar medallion which barely qualifies as “metal” but I’ll take it for the AJJ challenge this month.
All done!
And that’s the finished page. I had so much fun doing this one and having no idea what was going to emerge from it. Oh and if you want to see the class version from Effy’s Journal Jam, she has it in a blog post here.
Let me know what you think in the comments and as always, thanks for reading!
