Hello everyone, it’s been a short week but still TGIF!!! However I got to spend some time in the art room today and got quite a lot done including this page:
I’ve been wanting to paint some cats like this for a while now but acrylic is not my friend lol so it took me quite a while to get it done today. These cats remind me of a cushion or something that I saw before Christmas but all I could remember about it was that there were a lot of cats on it and one of them had a big swirly tail, so this is probably nothing like what I saw haha. Not many process photos today, had too much going on, but I managed to snap one of the background before I started on the cats. This was done with three different Jane Davenport crayons and this Tim Holtz stamp and water.
So this page started as I was thinking about the latest Funkie Junkie challenge which is about “royalty” and try as I might I couldn’t stop thinking about a cat with a crown on its head, and then it went from there to thinking about calling it the Queen Meowther. Just cracks me up IDK why lol. So I decided to just go for it and painted a big Mama cat with some kittens using acrylic paint.
Three of the kittens are sticking close to Mama…
These good little kittens all have little crowns too…
But the other little kitten is a little naughty, he’s lost his crown and he has wandered off because something caught his attention.
Could it be these iridescent butterflies? Yes I think so! They look yummy!
As the final touch, I used a brush and some metallic watercolour to write Meow on a piece of watercolour paper and used the leftover paint to splatter over my background. I’ve forgotten the name of the colour but it looks like a coppery burnt orange.
And that’s the finished page. Let me know what you think in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!

Once again, I was mesmerized by the beauty of your latest entry. I loved the crowns and enjoyed learning you remembered this from around Christmas and a pillow you saw. I think your cats are gorgeous, but the butterflies made me smile. They glisten and glitter. Thank you so very much for sharing these beauties with us at Art Journal Journey using Mia’s theme.
Love the kitties, the crowns, and that cool background! Oh, and of course, the butterflies. So pretty and well done! Hugz
