Hello Friends and Happy Tuesday (again)!
I am back with my second post for today, just because I completed both pages today and didn’t want to wait to post the second one as it’s getting close to the end of the month (where did April go anyway?) If you missed the first post, have a look here.
today’s art . . .
Today’s art is an art journal page made for the current challenge over on Art Journal Journey – Play it again, Sam.
This song has been running through my brain lately for a couple of reasons, one is that I have been listening to Faithless greatest hits album a lot lately (it’s been on repeat on amazon music because I’m lazy) and it has a track called Reasons, which samples this song. The second reason is that I am trying really hard at the moment to find reasons to be cheerful, and it’s not that easy atm. If you are not familiar with this song, it is by Ian Dury and the Blockheads from 1977, it was a single and also featured on the album Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. You can listen to it here if you are curious.
I started by drawing the letters for REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL and I wanted them to really stand out and be the focal point of the page so I drew them in a kind of 3D style. I wrote the opening lines from the song at the top of the page and then the artist, album and date alongside it. Before I did that though, I added some watercolour to the page, just some of my favourite colours, which are bright and happy.
I picked out some of the lyrics I liked from the song and wrote them on my page and also drew some little images of them. Above “something nice to study, phoning up a buddy, you’re welcome, we can spare it, and yellow socks”, Also “a little drop of claret”, “being rather silly, and porridge oats”, but also some things that I am grateful for (Mr G’s good B.M.s because it’s been a difficult time for us both!) and Miss Lily’s cuddles.
More lyrics from the song at the top of the page “Hammersmith Palais, the Bolshoi Ballet, jump back in the alley and Nanny Goats”. Also “the smile of a parrot” and “the juice of a carrot”. I drew a parrot (badly) and a nanny goat (also badly) lol apparently I can’t remember what either of these animals look like in reality haha, my nanny goat looks more demonic than I would like. I am still having difficulties with my hand but I can’t really use that as an excuse, they are just badly drawn lol. At least my carrots are recognisable as carrots lol. I also drew my bookshelves, now that I can see them again after moving all the craft supplies out of the way last week, I can see my pretty rainbow bookshelves again. Another reason to be cheerful is looking at Rightmove to find my forever home and that Miss P’s poor ear is healing up nicely and she’s less disfigured than expected!
The bottom right corner is all about the garden, some grass, some flowers and my wellies! Not forgetting a big bowl of porridge – yum yum!
I’ll be back on the 1st of May with another new journal page! As always, thanks for reading, and have a great week!

I am so sorry I missed this before. I’ve heard of the Blockheads, but wasn’t familiar with that song. This is a clever and fun page. I love the carrots and your wellies. Thanks for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey honoring Alison’s theme.
This is a great cheery page. I like your reasons to be cheerful, and that would be a great monthly theme at AJJ. It would be interesting to see what everyone came up with. Thanks for sharing this with us for Alison’s challenge at AJJ Elle. And I feell honored you posted 2 pages in 1 day for the challenge. Hugs-Erika
