Hello Friends!
I finally have a journal page to share today for this month’s FISH challenge over on Art Journal Journey. I have not been able to do much journalling due to some back problems and I wasn’t sure that I would be able to get anything done for this month, but I worked out a way of doing something simple while still resting my back and not trying to sit in a chair to do it.
today’s art . . .
Is finally a journal page I was able to make last night while horizontal. I’m calling it Frida and the Fishes.
I had been looking for a journal page and couldn’t understand why I couldn’t find it in any of my completed journals, and then I found three more journals I had mislaid, some of them had several empty pages inside! I tend to not assemble them until they are full but for some reason I put these three together with pages still blank, so last night, as I was resting my back, I started doing some drawing in some of the blank pages. The drawing is based on the image of Frida that was in one of the other journals I found (you can see it just below the sketch). I didn’t know where I was going with it, just practicing. Sorry for the bad lighting but it was late and with just the bedside lamp to light it.
I started off using Tombow markers on her face and hair, before switching to Pitt artist pens for the flowers in her hair. My Frida really looks nothing like the real Frida lol
I wondered what to do about the background and then I remembered I have this Gwen LaFleur fish stamp I bought in the Paperartsy sale last year so I used that to stamp my fish all over the page. All the little pattern stamps are also part of the same set – I love those most of all!
I used the Pitt pens to colour the fish and the pattern stamps and then finished off the page with Tombows.
Some final touches to her hair, makeup and flowers using some paint pens and then just added the date to the page, and it was done. It was quite low maintenance, using portable materials, and quite relaxing to just do some drawing and colouring from a horizontal position lol.
As always, thanks for reading, and have a great week!

Oh I like Frida with fish. Are those fish a stamp I like them and the color you chose for them. They are rich. And Frida came out great. I’m glad you found some time to join us for Mia’s challenge at AJJ Elle. Thank you. hugs-Erika
Love your page, Frida is quite striking, amazing what an artist can do with a simple prompt. I love cats also.
